Left 4 Dead versus Fallout 3 game comparison?

What is everyone's opinion with Left 4 Dead versus Fallout 3? I currently have Fallout 3, GREAT game, so how does it compare to Left 4 Dead? I know that Fallout 3 doesnt have any online play...bummer...but how is Left 4 Dead? is there online gameplay? Also, how are the missions compared to Fallout 3? I know in Fallout 3 you have a HUGE map to roam around in and you can choose your missions in what ever order you like....how is Left 4 Dead?
