Just read in Fleet Equipment Magazine that Truck-Lite has developed the first DOT accepted LED 7" headlight. No idea on cost but the web site shows it.

Just thought there are lots of riders converting to LED elsewhere. Currently having my parts manager looking up the cost...

It's just a matter of time until anything that needs light, gets lit by LED's. The new TV's are awesome. $237 isn't bad considering the cost of an HID and the cost will come down as these become a more proven product.
 
Talked with my parts manager about it. He told me that the Truck-Lite Rep was in last week and showed the lamp. Said it was very impressive...similar to the HID. Durability and improved lighting would surely be worth that.
 
I think TheShrink gets a kickback from teh LED industry, or maybe he has partial ownership of the patent or something All kidding aside, that would be something to consider, especially for the RK guys like me, where we don't have a ton of extra room in the nacelle to hid the ballast for HID, the LED would be a nice alternative.
 
and have you seen how ugly the kuryakyn hid's are? i'd be runnin off hid ding my self. those are butt ugly, chrome upside down funnel with a projector beam out the front. hope the led lights are nicer looking than the kury item.
 
That's pretty interesting. The price seems real expensive until you price a HD headlight set, then it's just high. The current draw is 2.5 Amps on low, 4.5 Amps on high, or roughly 30 and 54 Watts, versus a typical automotive unit of 45/55 Watts or 55/55 Watts, so you're not saving a lot of current with that. Still cool. I would consider that for the Sportster if they had one in that size. I have to save every Amp I can get to run the EFI on it.
 
We have been doing LED high intensity underwater lighting for a few years. The heat the LED's throw off is incredible even in the 5 watt/12 V ones we are developing. The heat sync is large as the LED would melt the surrounding housing and lens area if the bulb was turned on when on dry land. The Koreans have been busy on this project but save your pennies for now.
