Leaving Cert English Poetry?

I am finding it difficult to study english poetry.. Im not really sure how to go about it. I know to learn off key quotes etc and I have written answers on poetry but I dont really retain information very easily. Does anyone have advice on studying english poetry?
I know people have focused on 2 poets in the past etc but what if the ones I pick dont come up?
 
Choose just one or two poets to really focus on. Reading through previous years' papers will give you an idea of which ones will come up. Try to feel some enthusiasm for the poetry cos that'll really show in your answers.
