Been running leatherlyke bags for years, on several different bikes- never had a problem with them. A little Mother's 'Back to black' every now and then keeps them looking like new.
Just phoned the manufacturer, they said they'd resolved the problem with cracking and offer lifetime warranty! Their smaller bags won't fit the C50. The only problem is delivery, it'd take 4 weeks to Canada.
Last time I ordered a set they told me 3 weeks, but they actually come sooner than that.I love the leatherlykes, and will never use those crappy soft saddlebags again.
You will love them. They lock, are waterproof, come off in seconds to carry into the house or hotel with you, and the helmet locks are nice to have. The C50, C90, and C109 "T" models should come from the factory with them.
- Riders outside of US, allow at least 4 weeks for delivery.
- RTFM but remove and install one bolt at a time.
- there are 2 sets of bolts, separate the ones that you don't need.
- 8 mm, 6 mm allen wrench and 12 mm open end wrench [might need an extension for the 8 mm allen, original bolts were loctited].
- use the correct plastic spacers for the bolts.
- could use slightly thicker plastic spacer for the original bolts [the ones at the forward].
It's been raining here so think I'll put the bags to test tomorrow.
20lbs is the most weight capacity?
hmm time to start welding my own bracket i think...
i'd like to be able to hold at least 35lbs... maybe 50lbs a side..
yes. i like to over-engineer things. i like things to last. i'm really hard on things
i do like the bags, don't like the clicky way they mount... not tough enough for my uses (regular day-to-day would be awesome though)
i'm planning on putting my M50 through some rough riding and don't want it bouncing around much... i figure if i can stand on the saddlebags, they'll be tough enough.... 20lbs won't cut it
yes and no... don't want to have to tow something and have one more thing to worry about... i like to take the roads less travelled and something tells me a trailer wouldn't be a great idea
even the bmw cases don't hold much weight... so far the leatherlykes are rated the highest for weight...
i'm not sure what i plan to carry, but i want to make sure it's solid... many of those adventure guys break their brackets... i don't want to be that guy...
i'll probably only put about 20lbs in each, but want it over-engineered...
maybe i'll get the leatherlykes and see if i can toughen up the brackets...
You know, I installed the bags couple days ago and I've used these bags to carry my lunch, coffee flask and a few binders so far, can't say much about them yet but they've kept my stuff dry in heavy rain.
They look very good on the C50, the proportions and their position on the bike are almost perfect.
