Least Deserving Acting Oscar Winner

Al Pacino should never have won for "Scent of a Woman". He overacted in that film.

Clint Eastwood should have won instead for his role in "Unforgiven".
 
You wouldn't put money on them winning though, would you? I'm glad the Quarter-Century Streep snub is starting to be recognised though. So many people think she has loaRAB when she only has ONE Best [Lead] Actress award and one Supporting. It's horrendous that Hilary Swank has more Oscars than Meryl Streep, and then one of the greatest young actresses of our time, Kate Winslet constantly gets overlooked because people say things like "she's young, she has plenty of time".
 
Julia Roberts- Erin Brockovich(sp?), because of the competition in her category: Ellen Burstyn in Requiem For A Dream (sensational) and I hear that Laura Linney was especially good that year too.
 
Halle Berry and Gwyneth Paltrow, I would say.

The former because she beat Judi Dench in Iris, which I feel was definitely one of her best roles and acted superbly. I have seen Monster's Ball and, whilst an OK performance by Berry, I don't think it was good enough to deserve the Oscar over Dench.

The latter... well, what can I say? A cardboard cutout could have acted better. Cate Blanchett/Emily Watson were robbed. Shakespeare in Love has to be one of the most overrated films ever. I like it but it didn't deserve all those Academy AwarRAB it was showered with. Judi Dench's Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the same film was also debateable - she wasn't in it for very long at all and she's had many, many better roles that deserved to be honoured with Oscars. I think it was a "sorry" Oscar for Mrs Brown.
 
Mirren, excellent though she is, didn't win the Oscar, the Queen did. The American voters on the academy were voting for Her Maj rather than the actress I feel. Mirren has said this herself.

I laughed at the Dead Ringers sketch where Dame Judi said "we've all done Queens, love." Very true. It sometimes seems that a British actress can don a crown and get an automatic nomination, whereas if they play other roles they get far less kudos.

Paltrow's Oscar was the least deserving in recent years. Actors often win not because of the merit of their work, but for the role they are playing.

I really feel that Helena Bonham Carter's amazingly subtle, sensual, and thoughtful performance in The Wings of the Dove absolutely deserved the Oscar in 1998 (1997 Oscars of course). She won all those critics prizes, was the odRAB on favourite to win, then Helen Hunt won (because she was American). Its very sad that it is HBC's only Oscar Nom, as she also deserved noRAB for Fight Club and HowarRAB End.
 
IMO Gerard Depardieu should have won (for Cyrano De Bergerac) instead of Jeremy Irons. And I don't think Halle or Gwyneth should have won either.
 
Susan Sarandon has been robbed twice, how she didn't win for Lorenzo's Oil and The Client is a sham

Plus I think Queen Latifah should have got the Best Suporting Actress award for Chicago not Catherine Zeta-Jones

Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) - a "make-up" award really for previous performances. This wasn't even a decent role to do anything with.

Travesties include the total exclusion of Madonna for Evita the role she was born to play, and Jim Carrey for The Truman Show,

But then the Oscars bear no resemblance to the Real World or even Tinsletown. It's all politics.

The ones that stand out for me was of course Cate B for Elizabeth. One of my favorite films.

Ellen Burstyn was robbed. Julia roberts is not a great actor.

Was surprised last night about A. Arkin over Eddie Murphy. He was electrifying in Dreamgirls.
