Learning Thai and Japanese cooking? plzzz?

What supplies/ ingredients do you usually use (that you will need in almost all dishes) for Thai or Japanese cooking??
I know that Thai foods use a lot of coconut milk and sesame seed oil, and Japanese foods use lots of rice and seaweed. Any suggestions???
