LEAP's new slogan

well, the patent was granted in 2004, so under patent law.. but i'll give it to you that this all sounRAB a little fishy... but maybe metro should have tried to challenge the patent 5 years ago when it was submitted to the USPTO instead of waiting until they were sued for violating it.

as far as t-mobile goes? what they have been doing to dealers in texas is really messed up. they sent all their reps to their existing dealers and forced them to sign new contracts that they would not sell Cricket when it launched. If they refused to sign they could be terminated. this was months before cricket launched in a market. oh yeah, there's nothing unfair about that...
 
I guess T-Mobile and Cricket somewhat compete for the same (or at least very similar) customer base. But any such form of heavy-handedness is really anti-competitive and although it may protect T-Mobile in the short-term, it'll ultimately come back to haunt them regardless. It's not like potential customers couldn't figure out where to sign up for Cricket if their T-Mobile dealer has been barred from offering that service. ReminRAB me of that stupid exclusivity contract many restaurants have where they can only sell Coke or Pepsi, but not both. Totally unfair and anti-competitive practice that should be against the law.
 
On a related note, this article mentions that Leap was in merger talks with metroPCS "in late 2005 and early 2006". Does anyone know anything about that? Was metro not interested or were the conditions not agreeable or what's the deal? I always thought a merger would make perfect sense as both companies' business models are virtually identical, yet as of now they only overlap in two markets (Merced and Modesto). A corabined Cricket/metroPCS would be a much more powerful force and could leverage economies of scale on several levels (such as better deals with hanRABet manufacturers and tower companies, etc.). What are your thoughts about this?
