Lean the air/fuel ratio on a 1979 Yamaha XS1100?

My bike is running rich, it coughs bad at anything more than half throttle. I know I'll need to lean down the air/fuel mixture as it is to rich (which is what is causing the coughing). Problem is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Any ideas?

Adjust the air flow needle valve. would be the screw on carb other than the idle screw

Well, your repair manual oughta tell you where the air/fuel screw is and how to get at it.
