Well I got my June bill in the mail today and recieved quite the kick in the ass. Expressvu has moved their blackout territory for Leafs TV and as of July 14th I will no longer be able to recieve this channel. I live in Flamborough.

Has anyone else heard of this? It doesn't reflect very well on Expressvu that after 4 years of getting the channel they all of the sudden yank it. I'm sure the NHL has something to do with it but it just sucks that a fan that is willing to pay for the channel gets the shaft.

Isn't Flamborough near Hamilton? That's definitely Leafs territory (just ask Jim Balsillie).

It must be a mistake. Leafs TV is supposed to be available in all of Ontario except Senators territory.

Just for hugh, I made it through an entire Leafs post wthout making any negative comments about them. It was tough! ;)

If you really want to get that channel you can ask them to change your SERVICE ADRESS. Find an adress of a place that is eligible to receive it and have them out it as your SERVICE ADRESS (It doesn't matter, bills will be sent at the BILLING ADRESS). Tell them that your BILLING ADRESS remains the same. That way you will be eligible to view you channel and enjoy the game!

I won't get into any fraud issues but won't this cause a problem if he ever actually needs service in those cases where Bell needs to attend?

It is part of Hamilton since Hamilton no longer has official burbs.

From the Leafs website:

FYI - Blackout areas are set by the NHL/channel and/or local franchise, not Bell ExpressVu. It is 100% outside their control, other than enforcing what they are told to do.

Personally, I would think falsifying your service address is not the way to go. It could lead to many problems down the road.

Try a petition to Leafs TV. Or at least write to them for clarification, maybe Bell made a mistake?

There is 2 adress in your EV account...the service adress (where service is received) and the billing adress (where they send the bill). He should change the SERVICE ADRESS, mentionning that the BILLING ADRESS remains the same

It shoudn't... In lots of cases when a client move the service adress is not changed, so when a agent books a service call he has to always verify the service adress. The only thing that would happen is that agent, if he does his job as he should, would change the adress back to the actual adress and the client will therefore end up loosing the channel

Like what?

I once had a client that had a similiar issue, in his case not being able to watch some Canadian football games due to his location. He was really upset and had called every year many times for 3 years. I spoke to my team leader and he is the one who told me to do that. A few collegues had similar issue and asked their team leader or supervisor and were told the same. I think EV applies the rule that NHL gives them, then unofficially let's agent break it if needed for customer satisfaction.
It's funny that as soon as the trick is given by an agent, or ex agent people start using the work fraud immediatly. In a NHL Center Ice thread, a client living in the Prairies says he is using a Montreal service adress (if i'm not mistaken) instead of his current adress to be able to watch his local team on Center Ice and no one talked about fraud!

Sorry, this is getting off-topic now but to give a few examples:

1) Unable ot plug the phone line into the wall and thus unable to use the Caller-ID feature.

2) Wanting to order PPV stuff with your remote and being unable to becuase you cannot plug your phone line into the wall.

3) A card swap that requires you to activate from location and the phone # where the receiver is in use.

4) Mess-ups in the IPG times if the service address is registered to a location in another time zone.

... just to name a few. I had been doing this for years to get around CFL blackouts (to tape the games to watch after -- I am a season ticket holder) but also acknowledge that this was a questionable practice. I'm a bit surprised that cable and other providers haven't complained to the CRTC yet citing the ability for customers to do this with Bell. They've compplained about encrytion, theft, and the cottagers program... surprised this hasn't been on their radar as well...

PS - Now that TSN-HD does not black out games this has become a non-issue for me and have since changed my service address to my billing address.

Since the telephone number on the account won't change, just the service adress none of those will be a problem...
As I mentionned in other threads in the past EV can not know where the receivers are unless you tell them or they cal to "verify" them.
I saw client ordering PPV from the telephone line at their cottage for years and never had a SAT (departement who "verifies" those receivers) note in their account.
I also had client that activated their new card from the cottage and there was no problem doing so
All bill, magazines, cards send out by EV will be received at the BILLING ADRESS (the real adress)

There would be problems with the IPG time only if the adress is changed from one province to another (in the case of the CFL for example). If he changes his adress from Ontario to Ontario to get Leafs TV there won't be any problems

This is very helpful info Agent, thanks. So to be crystal clear you mean to say that in no way Bell reconciles their phone number lists to service address lists? In other words if a receiver's service address is in Toronto but the receiver is calling home from a Ottawa phone # Bell would not question that and/or leave a SAT tag on your file?

If you call Bell and give them a service address at which you knowingly have no service (falsify information), if caught for any reason, I would suspect they could easily permanently terminate your service. Besides that, you would be receiving and decrypting services to which you are not entitled.

I doubt there are any legal issues aside from falsifying contractual information. Is this wrong and worth the risk? Up to you, but I certainly wouldn't do it, nor would I want to put anyone into a position where services could be terminated and/or there is even a slight chance of anything illegal happening.

Keep in mind that Ex Agent EV is Ex for a reason. She was condoning and encouraging fraud on the part of customers against the company she worked for. I can't see how this is any different, knowingly providing false information to get around regulations is fraud.

dosborne, true, but

I'm a die heart leaf fan leaving on the east coast, does this interest me? Of course!

I'll change my service address and SUBSCRIBE to centre ice. A win win situation. If I get caught, so what! I'll be punished to fullist extent of the law? LOL Which is what? No TV?

All I need now is a good excuse when I call Expressvu...

habskilla

As I recall, subscribing to Centre Ice in Atlantic Canada gets you some if not all of the Leafs TV games when they are on anyway, but maybe that is only on Rogers. I have definitely watched a Leafs TV feed of a hockey game on one of the Centre Ice channels many times before and I live in New Brunswick too.

Kloraff,

That's the one question I've asked many times and the answer has always been there will be games I cannot watch because they will be blacked out.

That is the deal breaker, I'm NOT paying all that $$ and still get blacked out. I know this isn't an Expressvu issue. They're just following the NHL rules.

Why would they black out Leaf games when you are paying for the CI package? I live in BC and I purchased the CI package a few years ago and the only time they blacked out a Leafs game was when they were playing Vanvouver in Vancouver and the game was only available in BC via PPV.

The main reason they fired me is that they came on the site and saw one of my replies where I told a client that had a broken receiver to call in, not mentionning there was a problem, to take dish care and 3 weeks later to call and report the problem.

I also go to the French side of the forum and other agents have done the exact same not too long ago, so I don't see why I should feel like THE BAD ONE!

What I said here is not highly confidential information...
This change of adress opic has been discussed many time in the past in NHL Center Ice threads and if I recall well in a thread about CFL has well.
You can also read that certain people responding to the thread mentionned doing so in the past, so if it wasn't me providing the information they could change the adress someone would probably have informed them they could!!!
