Hi Everyone!

I am new to the site so please be patient with me as I'm trying to learn how to navigate and post but here it goes!

About five years ago I had two surgeries to repair a ruptered disc - L5. The initial surgery was a disaster and nine months later it had to be redone by a different surgeon. The second time was successful and for several years I had no problems. However, for the past year and a half I have again developed LBP and it seems to be getting worse.

In all fairness I must admit I took a new job three years ago that basically keeps me at a computer all day or behind the wheel driving for extended links of time. I have also remarried during that time and with my new found happiness came the dreaded weight gain of about 45lbs. I know none of this has helped my back issues but only made them worse.

The only treatment I have had is cortisone injections, pain meRAB, muscle relaxers, and lidocaine patches from my family doctor. Initially the corabination seemed to help but lately I can't tell that any are having an effect on my pain as it just keeps getting worse. I can only describe it as a very deep ache in the middle of my lower back that sometimes spreaRAB to my left buttock and a bit into the left leg. Yet, it does not feel like the sort of pain I experienced with the ruptured disc. I suspect it may be arthirits or scar tissue????

Finally, now that I have shared my conditon and history I'll get to my question about the mattress. Since we changed to a memory foam from a pillow top my pain seems to by far worse than before. I can hardly get out of bed in the morning due to the stiffness and it takes hours to loosen up if I do at all. It has become such a problem I have resorted to sleeping on the couch most of the time. I definitely notice the pain is less than when I sleep in the bed.

Has anyone out there experienced more LBP after switching to memory foam? All the research I've read seems to indicate just the opposite - memory foam is much better for bad back! Can anyone shed some light on this matter for me or suggestions/advice on alternatives? We really can't afford to buy new mattresses at this time (if that is causing my problems) so I wondered if there's any type of topper some might recommend other than memory foam?????? I'm getting desparate here as I don't sleep well and have resorted to sleep aiRAB and I am miserable when I get up in thre mornings.

Any and all advice/suggestions would be greatly appeciated!!!!!!!

Thanks!
