I'm putting about 30 feet of paver stones, about 3-high, around the front of my house. I plan to put soil in it and some plants. I've never done this before and am not sure what I need or how to dig.

Do I need to get crushed stone to lay underneath? Do I need to dig out some for the pavers to sit? Is there anything else I need to know? I plan on setting the pavers about 2.5 feet out from the house. Thanks.

Below is a how to guide for installing retaining walls.

This would give you an idea about how to install a paver stone wall.

We do this all the time and my husband is an expert. Yes you need to dig a trench, the deeper the better, at least 12 inches. Back fill with slag (it is cheap) We lay one paver parallel to the ground and another one behind it on its long edge. This will keep the soil in the bed and give you a nice edge to ride you lawn mower on to keep a nice edge. It will take you 3-4 days to do a good job. Cut the trench first (that is the hard part), backfill with slag and then put the pavers in place. You don't really have to seal the pavers.
