First time I watched this film last weekend. All I can say is what a great movie. Daniel Craig is fantastic and you think 'Yeh......... James Bond'.. I'm a big gangster movie fan (Godfather, Goodfellas, Sexy Beast, Gangster No 1) and I think that Layer Cake is up there with the best. What do you think?
 
It is nothing like Menace...Menace is based on a bad black kid in a bad neigbourhood. Boys N the Hood is a so much better film than Menace. Layer Cake is about a drug dealer who wants to stay out of trouble but just happens to get dragged into trouble because he has no choice.

By the way 'ruddiger' you missed out 'Get Carter', 'Gangster No 1', 'Sexy Beast' and 'the Limey'. They Are all good films in their own right. Even 'Lock Stock' is a good gangster film. However the 2 gangster films that set the bar are 'Godfather' and 'Goodfellas'.

I actually liked him more in this than in James Bond.

Good film though....Gangster films are never the same in plot take this for example is more with characters from an upper class area. Dead man's carRAB (an amazing film) is set in a lower class area.

Snatch and Lock Stock are very humorous whereas this isnt trying to be humourous.

There are also the American films which are on a completely different wavelength.
 
Same here. I think its because its a better film than either of his Bond films in my opinion.

The only bit of Layer Cake I don't like is the really violent bit in the cafe (or was it a launderette). But I'm a bit of a pussy tbh.

I really loved the ending.
 
I think Layer Cake is a very under-rated film. I think it jumps around a bit and you need to watch it maybe a second or third time, but I think it's excellent.
