Lawyers would you feel guilty if you helped a guilty murderer go FREE?

Like you knew in your heart that he was the murderer. There were eye witnesses to his crime and all. If you fought and set him free and he striked again how would you feel ?

I would feel very badly if I were the attorney for the state, but it is not the job of the defense attorney to prove the case for the government.

I would have no problem with what I did, but would be angry with the state for not doing their job, after all they are the state, and have unlimited funds and resources, much more than most defendants or defense attorneys.

Good Luck

I probably wouldn't want cases like that. However in our legal system defendant is innocent until proven guilty. It is up to prosecutor to do the job to prove the person guilty. It is not the defense job to do prosecutor's job and no one can know for sure.

Many attorneys have cases where their defendant was found guilty but they don't believe it. Many cases have come up with DNA evidence that they were not guilty even though they were found guilty.

Too many people think just because they are charged that they are guilty. Only think guilty need defense attorney. Not so. Too many prosecutors do anything to get conviction and don't look for anyone else. Look at Jon Bene' death and police and prosecutors didn't do their job and tried to hang it on the family and ignored real evidence that I'd was someone else.

Here is a multiple choice answer (but they all apply)

Obviously not.

A job is a job

Money speaks louder than ethics

and the logical...................................

Everyone is entitled to legal representation

Lawyers are not allowed to knowingly set a guilty person free. If the persons rights are violated and is free on technicalities, then it is the violator who freed them, not a lawyer. If there was a strike again, then it is of no relevance since the said person was innocent.
