Ill keep long story short, 2006 i sold a car a month after i did the person that bought it had an accident at that time he had not even switched the title to his name at the dmv or had insurance on it so now they come back meaning the other person that got hit by the car i use to own while the new owner was driving so i had not even a drop to do with it they come back and sue me for the damage, what can i do its been long i cant find a bill of sale anyone please help me i only have a few days? i just dont want to go out there hire a lawyer spend money out of my pocket for something im not even guilty of or had anything to do with ?
It was paid in cash i got cash from him, i cancel my insurance right before i sold the car , and i signed the title when i gave it to him
I tried to see if dmv would give me a copy of the title signed by me cause i think it has a date right beside it but they wont give me one
I still have a few days left to respond to the court, any one have any idea what should i say to them i mean this is so retarded honest , its like they cant find the guy who actually owns the car so they go after me
"thenemo" youre an idiot if i did something as stupid as whats in youre head do you think id come here trying to get some help sounds like youre and expert at this things what an f-up person ,piss off

Did you sell it cash or check or money order?
After you sold it did you turn in the plates or leave them on the car duh.
Who should someone believe you maybe you did loan It to someone with no insurance on it right/
or wrong/ bring some proof do you have any proof of no ill intent to prove you actually sold it and weren't just driving it with out insurance? Because e that what half the drunks do duh!
Sorry if you get screwed but there is to much crapola going on out there who got the ticket bring in your driving record and compare it with the guy that has had the accident to see who is screwing whom.?
Now lets suppose this guy has no bill of sale from you.
now you wouldn't lie about this would you?
Then maybe it was sold for parts but still you need a bill of sale when was it last inspected under who's name???
How did he keep plates on a 2006 car and not get it inspected?
in most States if you don't get your car inspected you get a hell of a fine two years sounds like this guy set you up with a friend to sue you for what they could get and then run. That is why you have to be careful.
The judge doesn't know the motive behind the crime.

If you have proof of a plate transfer or even the check (if there is one, hopefully) from the sale, that should help you. Did you sign the title over to the new owner as well?

If you signed the title over, then you're good. The fact that he did not register the car in his name is on him. Hope it works out for you.
*the DMV won't give you a copy of the title because you signed it over.

When you go to court, tell the judge you sold the car for X amount of dollars to (new owner's name) on (date sold), and that you signed the title over. If you still can't find the bill of sale, let the judge know there was one but it is misplaced.
