So I just graduated from a competitive high school recently and I am waiting to begin my freshman year of college. Since the beginning of high school, I've been pretty set on becoming a lawyer. However, I've been receiving a lot of negative feedback about pursuing a career in law since job opportunities are running out quickly and there is a likelihood that I will not have a stable job seven or so years from now after earning a JD. Moreover, my parents have been pushing me towards a career in the medical field ever since I was little and they are still insistent that I do. I'll agree that it is the safer choice, but I'm still not certain yet. If anyone can offer any advice about what I should do with my life, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have any information about medical malpractice law, that would be wonderful too. Thanks!
I graduated valedictorian with a 4.23 GPA. I have taken twelve AP courses in total and scored a 4 or 5 on seven of the exams so far (results of the other five to come later). I am capable and have no fear of undertaking the challenges of either field.
I kindly ask that everyone omit the advice "do what you love" or anything similar out of any answer. Trust me, that will not help me.

In all honesty, you should persue what YOU want to do. However, I personally feel that medicine would be much more rewarding and most helpful to people. There are just oodles more areas of medicine to get into than law. But ultimately it's your choice because it's your life.

Medicine would lead to a very well-paying and probably stable job, but if you're not passionate about it you're not going to get there - it's a ton of work and dedication and sleepless nights, no matter how smart you are. If you don't love what you're doing, you probably don't want to bother. If you really want to be a lawyer, go for it - you'll find a job somewhere. Sorry to bust out the cliche, but it's the truth.

as smart as you are, you can become a lawyer. the best jobs go to the smartest people. what you need to do is to go to college, major in something (english, political science, philosophy, etc), and get into a top tier law school and graduate at the top of your class. you'll probably have a job before you get out of school.

here's the thing with law school, all you have to do is beat EVERYBODY else in your school and you'll have a job in your city. try to graduate in the top ten of your law class and you will be fine. besides if you get into the medical field and hate it, you'll kick yourself for the rest of your life.

every time you have to wake up for work. good luck.
