Law homework - what does this question mean?

(By the way, I've only had two Law lessons as of yet, and during the majority of the first lesson, we filled out enrollment forms).

The question - "In each of the following situations, identify whether it involves the civil law, the criminal law or both civil and criminal law. Identify also the specific area of law involved and discuss the key issues which are likely to be raised in court."

I understand the parts about the civil law and so forth, but what does it mean by "the key issues which are likely to be raised in court?"

Reading the situations, I can point out many key issues. In fact, each situation is a key issue on its own.

Am I just missing something here? I feel really stupid.

say for example, the criminal law deals with thefts, you would then have to go on and talk bout the theft and what happened. In the court they would bring up everything that happened, and what there sentencing will be like, harsh or fair! this would be the key issue..as the courts are trying to gather information about it. like what is the sentencing for theft, and what would be the appropriate sentencing for someone who committed it.

thats what i think from it
