Late Show with David Letterman (Part 2)

A boss sleeping around with his staff is both sleazy (as he also had a long term girlfriend) and a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen. And for someone who has openly mocked the sexual peccadilloes of others caught with their trousers down, Letterman is a hypocrite too.

Hey, you may want to watch 'Frost On Satire' tonight at 9 on BBC4. It's a documentary exploring the influence of political satire on both sides of the pond. Sir David frost believes the US is currently leading the way largely thanks to The many nightly late night talk shows. I'll be surprised if there aren't afew clips of Dave.

Palin on Leno?, I can almost hear Daves instruction to the writers on this one!-"Go for the jugulars boys"!!!:D

Wonder if she can see the Tonight Show studios from her hotel room?:p

Maybe the Fire Letterman lynch mob are now demonstrating-"Save Conan"?

Hope she doesn't accuse Jay of sexually harassing her daughters-with his CHIN!!!

Maybe she could put Conan in touch with Mccain, they can exchange "runner up" anecdotes.

and so on...

Fair point.
I was generalising, as the letters condemning Dave appeared in the NY post.
They probably got an equal ammount (maybe more?) supporting him.
Again, I suppose it's a matter of the press picking a side, and then championing their own "moral" agenda.
Surprisingly, when I was over earlier in the year, there were a lot of reader letters published, openly criticising Obama for "snubbing" our somewhat,waste-of-space PMGordon Brown.

Nice to see that Chris Evans put David Letterman in his top ten most inspirational men in this weeks Shortlist magazine. He wrote a brief paragraph on Dave too, its on the last page if anyone is interested.

The Shannon Eis toy segment in the show from 17th December is hilarious. Dave is on top form ("there is a shortage of cats").:D Well worth a watch.

Is Joaquin Phoenix here?
That's the question everyone was asking after his must-see television appearance with Dave in 2009 that is now part of the upcoming documentary, "I'm Still Here."

On Wednesday, September 22nd, Joaquin returns to the LATE SHOW for his first television appearance since the incident. In anticipation of Joaquin's return, the LATE SHOW will rebroadcast his original appearance on Thursday, September 16th.

Can't wait? Relive some highlights of Joaquin's original appearance with our exclusive online clip, which has received over 8,000,000 views.

Where's Joaquin Phoenix?

rabroad are reporting that Jonathan Ross is in negotiations with Channel 4, and could well bring back the Last Resort! I hope so, it's the closest thing we've had to a Late Show style show.

Back on topic, it's been a good set of shows this week. The 'underpants bomber' has given Dave a whole new load of material. Shame he'll have to drop his 'Leno at 10pm' jokes soon though!

I watched a bit of Monday's show last night after I downloaded it (thanks to your link on LB, Paul!).

I wondered how he'd deal with the Tiger situation - and he did so brilliantly as you'd expect.

Highlight for me was asking the audience to applaud if they thought Tiger WooRAB was a jerk, and then applauding if they thought Dave was a jerk. After the Tiger claps, Paul says "I'd say that's about a third". And then, after the Dave claps (including the horn section!), Paul says, in the most deadpan way possible, "and that was about two-thirRAB, I'd say".

Tom Hanks's surprise appearance was good too - he's rapidly equalling Julia Roberts as a film star whose films I don't care for, but I love his Late Show appearances!

good find, mate :)

did they go out live back then? must have done.

Indeed, Tommy. Approaching the WTC and 'flying through'. hmm.

What's the bar that the sequence goes through?

Dave.

A sexual harrassment suit would only be relevant if he had coerced the sex. Sex between workers, even the boss and people of 'lower' rank, isn't illegal - it only becomes harrassment if it's unwanted attention or if it's in return for a promotion. There's no evidence, as yet, that was the case. As mentioned previously, the affair between Letterman and Stephanie Birkett ended in 2003 and she still works on the show so there's obviously no acrimony there.

Hypocritical? Hmmm maybe you could argue that. But who's not to say that Letterman won't be openly mocking himself in the next couple of weeks? To me, hypocrisy is when someone makes judgemental opinions of people's behaviour - Letterman's never judged anyone, he's told some jokes. That's his job.

And I'm sure that Letterman has no problem with Leno or Fallon telling (pretty weak) jokes about it. He knows he'd do the same in their position.
