Last house on the left remake - what an audience reaction!

Just got back from seeing the last house on the left...and what can I say, Damn horrific!!

The group of mates I went with wernt prepared for it at all! and neither was anyone else in the audience by the reaction of everyone!

A group of people behind us got up during 1 scene, stating loudly "im not sitting through this" and all left...and some more people nearer the front left too, i have never seen someone walk out of a cinema before.

And to top this off a women a couple of rows down, started having what seemed like a panic attack, the guy she was with was attempting to calm her down, before eventually leaving.

Certainly a horrendous film, some horrible bits in it.

What were people expecting?!?!

This wasn't a blood and guts horror film, it was a psychological horror film and i have to say, it was done very well indeed for what it was! It certainly got it's point across.

Yes, the antagonists were evil and repulsive, and they behaved that way. The film was an 18 certificate for a reason.

I saw it Wednesday afternoon and 2 people walked out during the horrific scene in the forest.

As a film though on its own merits i thought it was quite good. Not one for the easily offended.

Id like to think people walked out because of how bad it was. Im a fan of the original to some degree (not a massive fan) but this was terrible, really bad acting in places, some awful dialogue that seemed really forced at points and that extra scene at the end could not have ruined it any more. Also it was very toned down imo to the original.

I've only ever once seen anyone walk out of a film before and it was for the same reason. In the middle of Hostel when its starts to get graphic two or three couple just got up and walked away! Why pay for a ticket to a movie you obviously know nothing about and then leave half way through. Good film though and nice cameo from Takashi Miike also.

How does L.H.O.T.L compare to say Hostel in both content and quality?

Thanx in advance.

You mean the scene involving a technical household appliance or was there an extra scene after the credits rolled?

Plus i've not seen the original so i can't comment.

I felt it was a very disturbing film personally.

I've never known complete silence when a film has ended before, even walking out of the cinema everyone was quiet.

During the rape scene the cinema was deathly quiet, you could practically feel the awkwardness of everyone who was watching it. Nobody walked out of my screening though.

We got a completely different audience reaction to the scene where
the guy gets his hand chopped off by the waste disposal thing and then gets a hammer to the head. A guy started clapping! causing everyone to laugh and join in, lol. Same thing happened at the end with the microwave scene.

Yeah that scene. There was nothing else i presume/hope not.

That scene went on for so long it was lol worthy. Just one thing after another. Like they had a bunch of cool ideas as to how to do it but couldnt decide on one so just chucked them all together.

Some of the comments about the film here seem encouraging and subversive of my expectations on the face of it, but is it filmed in the-now de rigeur wobblicam/hyper-editing style? If so I will steer clear.

I've not seen the remake, but I'm unsure how much sympathy I've got. It's a film about rape. The original was banned for 30 odd years here, and any research about it at all would have told you this.

The sadist in me is quite amused people would go see Last House on the Left without knowing what it's about. Sorry.

Rape is only a small part of the content.
The original was legally available here on video between 1982 and 1984.

Although the film was finally allowed out uncut and certificated last year it has been available in the UK for several years - albeit with 30 seconRAB of cuts

In that regard it could be said that it's been available uncut since then, accelerated with the advent of e-bay (albeit with some arbitrary distributor cuts, of indeterminate duration, to non-controversial scenes...)

I saw the original and thought it was ok, although I have seen a lot more violent films. I usually avoid the remakes. The only remake I thought was good was the Halloween remake by Rob Zombie but to tell you the truth they should leave the old classics alone.

Murder-Set-Pieces was the most shocking, vile piece of trash I have ever seen. I watched the uncut version.

I saw this today and thought it was brilliant!!

When the woman gets shot in the eye, the whole cinema was clapping LOL!

Also when

The main evil guy gets his head bashed by the extinguiser and his head blown off. The people in the cinema all clapped and cheered!

So as you can see, many people enjoyed it.

Probably one of the best films ive seen this year.

There wasn't any clapping or cheering going on when i saw the film. In fact like a previous poster commented when it ended, the cinema was deathly quiet. No one spoke or even knew what to say.

The content overall was pretty shocking.

It was quite nasty, and not in a good way.

I didn't particularly enjoy it nor would like to see it again. I would watch the original though, since it actually seemed to have some purpose about it (commentary on the Vietnam war) as opposed to mindless violence. Although I wouldn't be rushing to see that either.

Saw this film and it was fantastic!!!

Better then what I thought it was going to be, it's a very disturbing film and the rape scene just has you in shock, everyone clapped when that ANNOYING woman gets shot in the bathroom.

Overall the film is well worth seeing 8/10
