Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

I agree with you there. Last night's episode showed the grim reality of those times, and how country life is not the idyllic life we sometimes tend to think it was.

I couldn't agree more, her fall last night was a classic, also her rouged face just cracked me up. What a wonderful part to play and she plays it so well.

I agree with you HF.....There was never too much to discuss the first series and in actual fact even though I'm bemoaning not being able to pick out the arc, I think I at least said I preferred the stand alone eps last year (never happy!)

Perhaps they infused too much soap opera last year that kept us on the edge of our seats - because whilst likeing the first series I don't remember caring if I missed an ep. all of last series was Sky + however!

After the frustration of getting episode 8 only to find the ending was cut off, I finally found another one and got to see the ending this morning!
I really enjoyed this episode and, while I'm not in any way slighting the town of Lark Rise, I really liked that it was set entirely in Candleford. It just felt cozier and I felt like we got to experience more of what daily life is like in Candleford. I loved Dorcas's struggle and frustration with the stove, Laura's furious brushing of Minnie's hair (poor Minnie's "Ow! Ow! Ow!"), loved Thomas and Daniel's fighting over the conks, Sydney's trying to save his goose (he is such a good little actor--so earnest in his apology to Dorcas! Give the lad more lines!!). I really loved getting to know Pearl more and seeing that she's just a lonely soul who has built a lot of armor around herself, but deep down just wants to be loved like all of us do. And this episode was so beautifully filmed--the scene of them all walking down that country lane is breathtaking! But for me the most poignant scene of all was when Pearl was waving goodbye to her new friend and sadly turns away only to see Dorcas standing there watching her, lending Pearl her silent support and letting her know she still has a friend right here at home. Just beautiful!! ---Sherry

Well... QM, highfidelity and geogchick - very good points. I've been doing some thinking myself and come to pretty much the same conclusion; has there actually been an arc, ever? Which is why I've decided to henceforth watch the series with a smile and not THINK so much.

But then again... in series one there was sir Tim... I think that story line together with Laura exploring her new life pretty much made up an arc.

In series two, there was, obviously, JD... And eventhough I'm not a devoted JD fan as I know many of you are, it still made up an arc.

Now, nothing overlapping has really happened, apart from Daniel and the secrets of the Pratt sisters, neither of which is exciting enough to make up an arc.

Still. I have, as I've said, enjoyed watching the two first episodes and I will continue watching it. I'm not at all hooked as I used to be, but as long as it makes me smile, I'm happy :)

I have to admit that I did 'like' the episode but didn't 'love' it. I'm feeling that the same things are coming up again - just with a different spin.

I used to really look forward to this and it used to pick up my spirits every week - but now I can quite happily think - oh the Sky+ box will keep it for me - I'll watch it tomorrow.

I hope it picks up a bit - but do find the light-hearted parts the best.

Thank you so much, LR_Bystander! That is so kind of you. I'm wondering about series 4 as well. I'm sure they won't be bringing Sir T. back *sob!* so I'm hoping they don't pair her up with someone else. And I want my version of the story finished if/before they DO take Dorcas in another direction! ;)

Well thats that dream over. Hopefully now she will be free to move on.
The only thing i feel is missing this series is a sparring partner for dorcas. We briefly seen her go up against robert but we need someone like JD or Mr Rushton, they dont have to be a love interest, just someone to keep her on her toes.

Arrh it's so nice to be back. Thanks Larkriser.
Curiousity has got the better of me and I've had a better look - it looks like it IS a musical. "Lord help us" as Thomas would say! The image of a tap dancing Twister has just shot across my head - that's something I don't need to see EVER ... and I work in the theatre! Perhaps the Pratt sisters will form the swing? No idea who the character is Jonathan Ansell is playing - but I dare say I can live with that.

Sorry I was brought up better - I really shouldn't mock - I dare say it'll make for a great night out. ;)

Really missing my Larkrise fix and would really like to rewatch Series 2 ...but like you it leaves me rather cross in places... it "tortures me with possibility".

I'm still tearing up.

Beautifully acted by everyone. I found the interweaving of the back stories of Thomas and the Pratts experience with previous epidemics added so much to the episode. There were so many stand out moments - Alf and Queenie during the death scene broke my heart. And Dorcas' smile turning to sadness when Thomas broke the news -- and Thomas breaking down in tears...

I have to stop writing now or I'll never stop crying!

What a very generous post to make. You have made me feel that my job is worthwhile, thank you. I am very grateful for you taking the time time to write such kind worRAB. I read this post to watch out for constructive criticism( which always sting, but must be taken on board) your critique, however, is even harder to take(isn't that odd?) it is filled with so much kindness, thank you again.:)
