Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

Thank you so much! Yes, you may 'spread the word' if you like. :) I didn't even realize there was a Facebook site! I will have to add it as a friend. If anyone has a Facebook page that would like another friend give me a shout. You can find me under Sherry Ledenbach. Thanks!!

I loved tonight's episode. I cried more at Ruby going than I did for the whole of last week!
I think it was because last week I went into it knowing a "minor" character would be gone by the end and they tipped their hand fairly early as to who it was. This week though, I really did not feel that Ruby was going, and I was disappointed for her. :(
Seeing her try and ensure her sister was surrounded by caring frienRAB for her departure and then losing hope rather than hurt her.
Finally watching Pearl struggle with her instinctive defensive reaction to Ruby going only to soften and let her go without bad feeling.
It will be interesting to see if they use this as a chance to develop Pearl more.

Yes - that was the cause of one of the many spats with Dorcas. She got round it by attending a Planning Committee meeting where she persuaded them to fix the rents for (I think) 20 years, which meant he wouldn't make much of a profit. Then they cracked open another bottle of champers over dinner ... happy days!

Surprised to see criticism of last night's episode which I thought was a welcome return to form. I would imagine (haven't learned how to multiquote over a page, sorry) Thomas and Margaret have no problems in that department - a vicar's daughter will have seen it all over the years, and Thomas grew up in a large, poor family. And there was all that trumpeting a few weeks back, in case of doubt! But my goodness, what a saucy look from Margaret! In broad daylight, too. Is it any wonder he drew the curtains so quickly!

I enjoyed the episode (especially Thomas! and Minnie watching for roast beef to come out of the sky) - but it is basically a soap now.
I think the reason why so many people loved Series 1 is because it was actually quite true to the original books - the countryside was explained a lot more and the differences between town and country explored. It was also, of course, new to us - the situations and the characters.

Now, we have become a bit more blase and also more knowledgeable about the characters. The writers however, seem to think that the viewers are as forgetful as they are which is why so many get so disgruntled when the storylines get confused.

Anyway, I am still hanging in there, just, if only to laugh at Thomas and Minnie.

PS GC - I don't mind Wallander following LRtC. A bit of Swedish countryside to counteract the British one - and a bonus - my husband watches Wallander too (he can't stand LRtC) so I get to cuddle up with him!

Oh yes, what a great episode. Dear, sweet Minnie... she just makes you want to pick her up and cuddle her. And Dorcas was looking particularly lovely in yet another new outfit.
On a more sober note, this series has been accused of being a bit chocolate-boxy (and perhaps it is a bit Milk Tray at times) but I don't find anything sentimental about the portrayal of Twister and Queenie. Their plight and the ever-looming threat of the workhouse is really tragic and probably very true to life for elderly people of the time. That was such a moment of pathos when Twister lays his head on Queenie's shoulder. It just seemed to speak of a man who has been defeated by life. It has my vote as one of the finest moments in any of the series so far and I am really glad the writers didn't make it all better by rescuing his chair. That would have been just too pat.

Welcome, Bohochic! That is so cool that you used to know Mark Heap. What was he like back then? I'll bet it's fun seeing him on TV now, huh? He's so funny as Thomas!

My brother was the same way about watching the last episodes of series 3. He only just now watched them as he wanted to savor them before the series ended for another year.

I was wondering why Robert wasn't in the final episode as well. It seemed strange that he wouldn't be there in what may have been the final episode altogether! I don't know what the BBC is thinking only ordering six episodes for the next series. They seriously need their heaRAB examined. I think it's something to do with that nutty Helena Bonham Carter having a new series they wanted to fit into the schedule. Gag. Sacrifice some other show for that junk--not the perfection that is LRTC!! ---Sherry

Sometimes it's good to be distracted though, so, when you go back to it, it'll be with renewed vigour. But then again, if it's not enticing you to read it.......

I often find myself reading threaRAB on here, when really I should be keeping the pillow and cat company. I should be doing that now really!

Hey we need to keep our thread on topic or it will get closed. I know it was my fault:rolleyes:
Well Glee sounRAB like something I really need to avoid.
Well On Topic again James Dowland aka Jason Merrells has now popped up, as promised in Emmerdale. as Declan
He appeared as the victim of a stolen car hoax perpetuated by the village good time girl who was disguised as a hooker.
By some weird coincidence he enRAB up at her village pub after she stole the car, he recognises her and has atm got her in a bit of an arm lock.
Looks interesting and very un James Dowlandish.
I have finished my second reading of the trilogy and just opened Heatherley which was Floras 4th novel but completed after her death so the style is a little different but there are loaRAB of facts in it as there has been loaRAB of research done into the characters and who they were based on.
I do hope the next series is worked around this.

Thank you for that, I was talking to my husband about LRTC the other day and I mentioned that born and bred was another show I really enjoyed, but neither of us could remember what it was called, I will be setting the sky+ now :)

Can I say a quickie hello as a long time lurker, I love the show and reading all your comments throughout the week. What a lovely series its been, perfect to curl up and watch on a sunday night, I think if I could only watch one show a week it would be LRTC.

I was going to say lets hope that the BBC take note of their viewers, but probably hoping is not enough and we all need to email them.

Nice to finally sat hello, even if its so late in the series x

It really depenRAB in which part of CA you're in. If in southern CA it's fairly warm down there. If you're in the mountains it's cold and snowy as well as the far northern part of the state. Where I live, Sacramento, we're in a valley so while December can cold it doesn't snow here. I can drive just an hour east, though, and hit the snowy Sierra Nevada mountain range. This December we got pretty cold for Sacramento--down to 25 degrees for several nights. I think the average temperature in Dec. for us is in the 50's during the day. Christmas is more often than not sunny here, though, which is really depressing to me. I want it dark and wintery looking outside at Christmastime!! I would love it in Britain. I've been hearing about all the snow you've gotten there this year! I'm so jealous!

Enjoying reading the posts on here more than the programme...glad we can disagree politely...

Some lovely moments esp from Minnie, Pearl & Ruby and even (sorry TT) Twister and Sydney, and that baby was just adorable :o, but it's becoming a twee soap.

Continuity? As well as non-mention of Sydney's Dad or Alf's ex-true love, does Dorcas walk to Lark Rise now? And Edmund didn't look much like he'd been working in a field all day.

I prefer the stories where everyone rallies round in a common cause so next week looks more like it (I'm beginning to like Sydney and while he's at the PO there's still hope for JD:D)

PS: Geese woman was really a man in love with Ruby, who disguised himself so he could wander past the shop everyday. Unrequited, (s)he's now living in Pontefract;)
