Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

OMG
i am flipping out
the person on youtube who posted the link for the episodes has had his account suspended

i wont be able to see the rest of the series :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Why does Sydney have to appear in every ep?

I like this one as showed more about characters we already knew. I felt the characters were far less 1 dimensional, yes Dorcas stuck her nose in, but we were shown why....

Minnie and the sister was sweet and see more of Ruby etc was good too.

If you get the chance, watch it. It's another costume drama, with the exellent Maggie Smith, but I must admit I'm hooked. Very good cast and good strong story line. Can't wait for this Sunday's episode.

Mark Heap has also cropped up in a new 4 part drama on the Beeb this week with Dr Who's David Tenant playing a recently widowed father. Mark plays a solicitor. Seems all the actors have been branching out a bit of late.

Kyrsten:

I started to write out a refutation of each of your points, but at this point I'm losing interest in the show (I think the wrap up of the Midwinter storyline will probably be the final nail in the coffin :(), so let me just say I disagree with almost everything you've written.

If you want a more detailed analysis of the final episode, the reasons that people "went off" Dorcas, and general dissatisfaction at James' deus ex machina exit, the series 2 thread is a treasure trove.

It's snowing here!!! Snow snow snow I'm so excited!:D

I know it is prob getting abit old for all you UK lot but here in Cork we've been looking at all the snow on TV and just enjoying black ice instead :mad:But now snow - such LRTC weather!

I think most of it's on youtube - and no one here is going to give you an unbiased opinion of whether to give it a chance:)

The last series come to a conclusion so this series will prob start with new storylines so I'd say you should be able to follow it....just ask if anything is confusing you!

Dorcas and Emma are cousins via their father? Or their mother? I can't quite remember :-D But I do think it was thru their daRAB (unless the dad didn't have the same pa ? LOL Mother remaried after first husband died?)

whoo hoo...newy shiny thread....and Happy New Year to you all.:D

Well it looks like we have new actor playing Sydney and the snips I have read he becomes part fo the fabric of the PO and Dorcas becomes his surrogate mother. I dont think we'll hear about or see much of JD this series, but it would be very odd for no reference being made to laRAB father:confused:...expect him to turn up inthe last episode maybe.;)

I'm not altogether bothered about Lauras love life, I just dont warm to her at all...... but it's clear that this is a major story line for this series. If it brings out Dorcas'impish/mischevious side, all the better.

I wonder whats goign to happen to the hotel.

Will we get a Preview clip like last year for each episode, they were fun, we use to read so much into them!

Afraid I'm old enough to remember her in 'Abigail's Party' - along with the wonderful Alison Steadman (Mrs Bennett in the Pride and Prejudice)

Back to LRTC, although this series grew on me as it progressed (and the best thing on TV at the time!), Laura's love life just didn't grab my attention as much as Dorcas' in S2.

I still can't believe so little reference was made to JD - you'd have thought Fisher's return would have prompted some mention of his former employer, or at least a question to Dorcas about where her 'son' had come from....

Ah well, maybe all will be resolved in S4. Meanwhile will start watching Emmerdale...:D

Sriped cat, I loved the Onedin Line (and Poldark!!) - didn't see much of House of Elliott. Don't think LRTC is gritty enough to be compared to it - just enjoyable in its own right.

Thanks TT for getting the thread going!

Hello everyone! I'm new to the board but a HUGE fan of LRTC and of Julia Sawalha. Can't believe I've missed out on this board all this time, but many thanks to a new friend who told me about it. I first heard of Lark Rise (for some unexplained reason it's never been shown in my neck of the wooRAB--northern California) when I was looking to see if Julia was doing anything new on IMDB. I saw Lark Rise and just had to find the show! Of course when I did, I immediately fell in love with it. My favorite character, of course, is Dorcas and I absolutely loved the Dorcas/Timothy storyline. (Sorry JD fans--just could never warm to JD.) More about my perplexity at Dorcas's "something was missing" comment from this past episode in a bit.
I first became a fan of Julia's back when Absolutely Fabulous started. She is one of those rare actresses where you can see in her eyes her intelligence and a deep passion lying just beneath the surface-- that given the right trigger could erupt at any time. I think that's why she's so brilliant as Dorcas Lane and makes Dorcas such a fascinating character. What I loved about Dorcas's relationship with Timothy is that it was his presence that triggered that passion within her--making her not so in control as she so desperately tried to be all the time. In the final episode of series one when she slapped him and then he pulled her into an embrace, she says, "You don't know how much I've longed for this moment." There was no doubt she wanted him. I mean, it's throughout all of series one how deeply she loved him and he her. And then comes episode seven of the third series where the return of Sir Timothy is really played up--especially with Minnie poking and prodding Dorcas about her relationship with him. (Soooo hilarious, by the way! I love Minnie! I love how she makes Dorcas lose her cool all the time!) So Dorcas's comments to Lady A. really threw me for a loop. What I expected to happen was when Lady A. asked Dorcas if Timothy had asked Dorcas first to marry him, I thought for sure Dorcas was going to lie to spare Lady A.'s feelings and deny it. Her comment that "something was missing" and was why she didn't marry him just didn't ring true (I mean, not true to what had happened in the past--Dorcas definitely seemed sincere when she was saying it). I saw series one--there was no sign of something being missing! I do understand that Dorcas feels fulfilled in a way having an adopted son now. She has someone to love and who loves her without barriers. I guess I was a bit confused because if having a child filled that "missing" part then she could have had children with Timothy. Of course another obstacle is if Dorcas were to marry she would lose the post office. Part of me imagines that she is grooming Sydney to take over the post office one day. And who knows what could happen to Lady A. during this second pregnancy! I know, naughty of me to think that way! Being a single, independent woman myself, I know that Dorcas is doing just fine on her own and doesn't HAVE to have a man in her life if she chooses not to. I guess what I loved about the whole Sir Timothy thing is that it brought Dorcas's emotions and passions to the surface and that made her very interesting to watch. I am soooo looking forward to the next new episodes and praying for a fourth series!! I feel like a know these characters and want to keep knowing them! I'm also so happy to be here and find fellow fans to chat with about this wonderful show!
P.S.: I was also thrilled to see Brendan and Claudie as Laura's parents. I adored Brendan in "North and South" and Claudie is always wonderful in whatever she's in.
P.S.S. (sorry! keep thinking of more things to say!): On IMDB I also discovered "Press Gang" and thanks to my region free DVD player I was able to order the show from Britain and see it for the first time. LOVED IT! Julia was brilliant as Lynda Day! What's scary is Lynda kind of reminded me of me when I was that age. Haha! (I'm just three years older than Julia.)
Have a wonderful day, everyone, and I look forward to all your comments! --Sherry

Hi Everyone.

Will you remember me - hope so. Victorian Girl here. My goodness you guys have been busy - catching up has just taken ages.

So glad that the show will be back - I too heard that it would be aired early next year and that we're only getting 6 eps:(. Sooo many loose enRAB to tie up, they won't have much time for new characters. I agree with the other posters about most of the hoped for conclusions. Dare I say it - yes I will...being one of the few avid Mr JD fans amongst you I'm still hoping he'll come back, even if it's just for the last episode. Twister can indeed die (sorry TT!), and JD comes back a new man to support his family - Sydney neeRAB a Dad however great Dorcas's parenting skills are. I wouldn't have a problem with Dorcus staying single in the end - but there's so much unfinished business there. You could say that about Dorcus and Sir Tim too of course - but seriously guys - he drew a line under that when he married Lady A.

Had a look at the theatre postings - LOL well well. Larkrise is going on stage. Is it a musical? As much as I'm curious I'm not sure I could ever watch anyone else playing Dorcus!

Larkriser - loving your work!:D
