Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

Newbury in Berkshire. An hour from London. Surrounded by countryside, we have a canal running through the town centre. The other day, when the snow had thawed, i got followed down the main shopping street by three rather excitable ducks! It made me laugh!

Hope you don't mind me butting in :)
Every effort is made by the director and the actors to get performances that will marry up in the edit; it just doesn't always pan out that way.

The decisions will be made in the edit.

There are a number of times when the first cut of an edit will overrun - sometimes by quite a bit - and then dialogue may be cut from a scene to help get the programme to time, resulting in the mis-matching jaw movements.

There can also be technical reasons why one of the reverse shots is not used, or one particular performance from an actor is the one that the director is happiest with; it may be not be the one that matches the closest, but it's the one that's the most effective. There may also be a shot from one take and then the next reverse angle is from a later take. Sometime the whole order of a scene can be changed in the edit, meaning that none of the reverse angles really match.
Apologies if you feel I'm stating the obvious to you, not my intention, just trying to help. :)

I have wondered whether those actors who do watch their own performances, get annoyed sometimes when they feel that their best performance wasn't used. They'll know which take they thought was the best; it must be a frustrating when the director picks a different one.

When I watch a new episode of LRTC, I just want to follow the story and to know what is going to happen, so tend to miss some of the other things which make the programmes so special. But I've discovered that the series is the perfect DVD choice because, as so much happens in each episode, each time I watch I discover details I'd missed before. QUOTE]

A brilliant example of this is at the end of episode 3 in the first series. It's during a concert at the Lark Rise school. Dorcas has been very upbeat, bustling and organising everyone else's lives, like the in-control person she appears to be, throughout the episode. There are just a couple of moments at the end, during the singing of a sweet and poignant song of loss and love, when she glances over at Timothy. I missed it first time but if you have the DVD, do check it out, certainly if you are of the Dorcas-and-Tim-souls-entwined-for-eternity persuasion. Blink and you would miss is - it's quite an aside from the main focus of the scene which is on people singing and having a wonderful community moment. It's a look of such yearning and so revealing of her feelings it makes you ache for her but I missed it when I watched the first time.

I don't know that I have one; all four series of Dr Who have a mix of stronger and less strong stories. None are actually bad though, except one story from the 2006 series (the awful Love and Monsters, and some fans even love that one).

Don't get Who fans started on discussions on this thread though! Give us half a chance and we'll hijack the thread! ;)

Oh, gosh, it sounRAB lovely! And how funny about the ducks! You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place where ducks are found on the main shopping street. :D

17 minutes until the show starts! I look forward to hearing everyone's comments afterwarRAB. Since it's just coming up on noon here I'm off to the bookstore and then to lunch. Enjoy the show and hopefully I'll be able to see it before the end of the evening, too!

Yeah, at 20 for me it was 1985--I was working at a video rental store, putting myself through college, had big hair, shoulder paRAB and listening to Duran Duran, the Police and Oingo Boingo. Hadn't a clue what my life was going to bring!

Is Dorcas starting to have doubts?

When are things go to get moving on the Sidney front?

Who is managing the Golden Lion? Has JD sold it?

There doesn't seem to be any story arc.

Morning All, still a winter wonderland and the wipers aren't working on my car:eek:

In the book L7 Dorcas wants to leave the post office to Laura to keep her in Candleford, but Laura doesn't want it and leaves. They hardly went anywhere near the book in series 2, but the story of Laura and a journalist was definitely in the book..........so who knows;)

He was Emma's uncle GG and series 4 would mean 1897 which is when Laura left so I'm guessing it's a dead cert.:)

She's had years to heal.........get over it and get JD back:D

ARE YOU READING THIS ALL YOU TWISTER DEATH WISHERS..............JS LOVES TWISTER:p:p:D

And that ain't gonna happen is it SS?:D

Bedtime for the workers, c u later:yawn::sleep:

Although I enjoyed the most recent episode the most out of the three new episodes, I agree with just about everyone else that the show is really lacking something this time, the main problem being the sloppy writing and lack of an overall story arc. There really is no excuse for the Dibber fiasco and the complete erasure of Nan from the story without any explanation. It makes me wonder if the writers have got carried away with the Sunday-night-hug idea and taken that to mean that the viewers don't much care about the plot as long as they are transported to a place of pastoral bliss for an hour? If so, they are wrong and the lack of plot or the repeat of previous plots - ie Robert's interminable pontification on his pride - would eventually make me turn off due to boredom.

I am also deeply unenamoured with the idea of Alf and Minnie getting together as they really aren't suited at all in my opinion. As sweet as she is, Minnie is daft as a brush and fairly useless and is definitely not what a man like Alf - with so many troubles and responsibilities of his own - really neeRAB.

Personally, I've always wanted Alf to educate and work his way to a standing which meant Laura would finally see how lovely he is and fall in love with him rather than the flashy numpties she usually goes for - I know people liked Fisher but I thought he was a twit. I would be really interested in seeing him make something of himself after such a poor start. Ahhh well, it seems it's not to be.

Thanks so much, Elinor31! I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know how you're enjoying the story. The wedding scene will be coming up soon! :)

It says in tv choice magazine that their are 12 episodes this series. Is this right?

The second episode sound fun, Dorcas losing her cool should be very funny.

I've obtained some great magazines on LRTC--has anyone seen the Classic Drama DVD magazines? There were four issues all featuring LRTC that also came with DVRAB of the first series. I have to say it was extremely difficult to get these in America as the company in England wouldn't sell them outside of the UK and I had to finally track a seller down on eBay who had all four. I will scan every page when I get some free time and post them for all to read. In the meantime, I scanned a part of a funny little interview with director Marc Jobst about the one scene where Timothy's little finger touches Dorcas's hand and she pulls back. So funny how the cast and crew react! Also, an interview with Ben Miles on playing Sir Timothy as well as two articles on Julia from other magazines that I thought you would enjoy.
I uploaded them to my website so here are the links:
