Large tonsils!!

My mom has large tonsils and very often she can't breath.
She does not have tonsilitis because she hasn't been sick, but she will start coughing and all of the sudden stop breathing (kind of like choking)

I've heard that tonsil removal is very difficult and painful in adults. My mother is 57 years old, what should I do?

I don't know what you can do but she should see an ENT and discuss whether they need to be removed. And yes, it's not fun as an adult to have your tonsils out.

Yeah having them removed may be her only choice at this point if that's what's causing her to choke.
