i have a 10" 100w sub that came stock in my car. i was planning on getting an amp/sub upgrade but dont have enough money for both right now.

could i get a high power amp for now and hook it up to my 100w sub, so that in the future ill be ready for the larger sub? prob going to get a 300-400w sub later on.

i just want to know if running a 400w amp to a 100w sub will damage anything.

Yea it will damage the stock sub. They are not designed to handle that many watts, just wait until you save enough money to get both. It'll save you time and the headache. Ever looked into getting a powered enclosure?

You should most definitely wait until you can afford both. You'll just risk frying your stock equipment and you'll be drawing unnecessary power from your alternator just to power a meager 100 watts. You'd be defeating the purpose of having an amp. Just keep saving that cash. Also, check ebay for good deals/better prices.
