Laptops in schools

Now all of a suddon i've noticed a ton of high schools having kids with laptops. Now honestly why do they need a laptop? Ok, say they save on books, still pay $1500 for the damn computer. Also if its just for notes, id rather have $1500 in my pocket then spend it on something that makes notes easier cause im to damn lazy. The only thing I could see high school kids doing on them that they would enjoy would be checking there email, getting on aol instant messanger, and looking at porn.
 
You may have forgotten how much it SUCKS taking notes on paper. It's horrible. I wish my district would buy me a laptop...

They also save maintainence costs by reducing the amount of crap paper floating in the halls, and they save storage space by switching the textbooks over to CD-ROM format.

My district gives them to the sixth graders in the middle school...they lock them down totally, though. That's why I would use my uber l33t tweaking skills to give myself full access on the admin account :).
 
by that, Im sure you mean to examine the network, and warn them of vulnerabilities, so that they may be fixed..........right?
 
Well, first of all, they get these laptops with money from grants. These grants are generally pre-apportioned to be used for school tech. This means that this money is good for nothing but basically buying laptops for classrooms. The last school I worked at had them and they had a wireless DSL connection as well. This was perfect because the kids each had email, they could research anything at a moment's notice and they were getting used to computers startign at a young age so that they wouldn't turn into dumbass adults that are afraid of computers.
 
i was going to go to a private school that had laptops but the students had to by them so they could do whatever they wanted on the screen. for the kids that culd only afford the school but no laptop got financial aid. they could upload and download whatever they pleased. i gess officials thought private school kids would pay attention and save the porn for at home or something. crazy....crazy....!
 
lol, yea I agree really...laptops r for ppl in college like me, but so far it hasn't come in handy that way

but hey, if this one highschool didn't do that, my friend wouldn't have a job, lol
he's this highschools 'laptop manager'. he runs the school's server, laptops, networks, websites and shit
we're both only 19, but it's like a techi's dream to start out...cept he's like uber smart with this stuff and deserves his skillz to be used there

otherwise yes, the idea for highschoolers having a laptop is obsurd...all that money wasted on kids who jus stare at a screen and play games...they shoulda thought twice
