I know..I know..I have been bad, haven't said hello in a long time. Please forgive me...My VERY busy season at work hit in early July and it has been non-stop. Trying to squeeze in PT and all kinRAB of crazy stuff at work and then I get home exhausted and the last thing I want to do is sit at the computer again...

Hello MM.....how are you and Diet Pepper are you getting any relief?

My groin pain continues, some days better than others...My surgeon said it's arthritis in the hip but I think it's a result of shifting things w/ the surgery..If I have DDD generally the bones are not in good shape and securing the verebrae I believe shifted things a bit..It's what my body is telling me ...

I'm doing my home exercises faithfully and walking 1/2 an hr. every day rain or shine..Never feel 100% but don't have the awful pain I had before surgery.

My Mom (79) is now going thru something similar and I can see it in her face, she doesn't want to do all the things she used to do..SHe gets very tired and discouraged and they say she has a herniated disk...She has pain above the left knee and sometimes in the butt too...I feel badly for her cause surgery isn't an option at her age.

I hope you are all enjoying some of the summer that is quickly slipping by.
Is the waking in the pool or swimming helping anyone.

All my best,

xox

Hi Stranger ~

Nice to hear from you. I was off the board for a week as we were on vacation. Had perfect weather and I was pleased that I could walk and get around as well as I did.

Sorry to hear about your mom. My 87 year old MIL had the very same surgery that I had in Feb. and she is doing pretty well -- not as far along as I am, but in less pain. She just began her PT about a month ago. Her doc waited til after the 6 month checkup...where she was just beginning to fuse. So maybe your mom could have something done so she's not in so much pain.

I went to the pain managemen doc on Thurs. for my first visit. He kept trying to give me drugs, so finally I told him as odd as it seemed, I wasn't really there for pain relief. Rather, I wanted to find out what is causing my "new pain." Also when he quizzed me about the "neuropathy" in my toes, I had to admit that I had never had any tests for it. Some doc in Florida told me that's what I had and when I got home, I passed it on to my internist and it just became part of my permanent record. So he wants to do an EMG and a nerve conduction test to see what's going on and to see the condition of my lurabar nerves. I am also going to have one ESI for diagnostic purposes, to see if the pain is coming from L3 as they suspect. Once we gather that info, I can decide how I want to approach things.

I'm a lot better off than I was pre-surgery, but I still can't walk or stand for any period of time. I weaned myself off Lyrica as I got tired of the weight gain and felt it wasn't doing any good anyway...it hasn't effected my main pain, but I now have all sorts of little squiggly electrical sensations in both legs that I wasn't even aware of. I think my nerves are just waking up!

Sorry you're so busy. Will that taper back off as fall approaches?

About that groin pain...is it on the inside of your thigh or more like the lower part of your pelvis? If so, I wouldn't think it would be related to anything in your hip...but, what do I know? Hope you can get a handle on it and that it will gradually go away as you get stronger.

Nice to hear from you! Don't be a stranger:rolleyes:

Hey Stranger...again ~

Guess what? I am having an ESI on Wed. I swore I wouldn't have one again but I let the pain management doc's PA convince me to do it, for "diagnostic" reasons.

Then on Sept. 3rd I am going to have an EMG and nerve conduction study done to see what kind of nerve damage is still there after my fusion. When the new doc asked me how I had been diagnosed for peripheral neuropathy, I realized I had just been passing along the "diagnosis" from doc to doc due to what one podiatrist in Florida had told me. He thinks it isn't PN but is from my lurabar issues...so we'll find out for sure.

I also started massage therapy yesterday...now that I have finished PT, at least for now. I may try someone different though. This person is just beginning to build her practice and while she was OK, I would prefer someone with more experience with a medical-type practice.

How are you doing? Can you build up your distance with walking, or does the groin pain prevent that? I can walk a lot further than prior to surgery, but not as much as I want. I ran into a friend at the grocery store -- they've moved to Savannah and I hadn't seen her for 18 months -- we stood and chatted for a while and I was starting to get the old pain back. We finally made plans to get together for lunch, so we could both sit down to talk!! So I am far from perfect...but I wasnt really expecting to be restored to the way I was at 20!!

Write when you can. Miss having you on the board!

Hey...MM......Anxious to hear how the ESI goes.....I too have been feeling stiff and the groin problem persists...But I have learned to work around it..I too am grateful to be able to stand or walk for any period of time...

Just about to get into the pool for some walking and exercises...Yesterday I actually used the kick board a bit..A bit sore today but trying new things.. my PT thinks I'm ready to get back to the gym...I want him to come with me...LOL

Do let me know how you do....I too miss "chatting" w/ you..Have you heard from Diet Pepper? How's she doing???? Better I hope.

God bless.

Hi LAF,

I believe Pepper posts on the pain board most of the time.

I'll let you know what they discover with the esi/nerve block.
