Ladies and Gentlemen: Following on re a Question earlier re Social Science and...

American- outspoken, opinionated, aggressive, naive, trusting, optimistic, idealistic, opportunistic, individualist, arrogant, hypocritical, self-promoting, superiority complex, slapstick sense of humor, likes inferior comedy, anti-intellectualist culture, competitive, consumerist, religious, hardworking, sexually repressed, puts people in prison and throws away the key for petty crimes, talks a lot and tells entire life story in casual encounters, is overly friendly and smiley unless they are from the NYC metro area (then they are the opposite, grouchy and mean), generally likes Britons.

Briton- reserved, passive aggressive, cynical, pessimistic, suspicious, politically correct, arrogant, hypocritical, self-deprecating, inferiority complex, dry sense of humor, clever, misanthropic, complaining, drinking, tolerating the dregs of society by painting them as victims, talks a lot but never says what they really mean, often talks about the weather and how awful it is, is overly polite and places high emphasis on good manners (except when drunk or when talking about someone when they are not there), generally dislikes Americans.

I have heard these, whether or not I agree,

1. Americans...loud, brash, uncultured, poorly educated.

2. Brit...pompous, snooty, dull, love their gardens.

3. Irish...temperamental, like to drink, frugal. ( Heard that about the Scots, too ).

Oh dear, I'm an American with a British/Irish/Scottish ancestry. ( laughing)
