Labels

God I hate it when people label you because of what music you listen to! Your just sitting there listening to your mp3 then someone's asks whatcha listening to? You say My Chemical Romance they look at you and label you emo. When your just like a band? Why does it matter what I listen to? God labels are stupid. What dumbass decided "Hey! I'm gonna label people by what they wear and listen to!" When you take the labels of all you have is sticky bottles. Then whats even worse is once someones labeled you everyones all like OMG your so emo or your such a stoner! Then they jump to idotic conclussions about everything. It just makes me want to go insane!

We did have another thread, dedicated to this, almost verbatim. Or at least people were posting their opinions like this.

Although I did have someone look at me in "that way" last week because they plucked an earbud out of my ear while I was listening to All-American Rejects. They aren't that emo to me, but most kids in my hick-ass town think so.

for some reason most of the people that go to my school love to throw around labels...i heard that people think im a stoner, which is funny because i dont do drugs. and i dont think you can seriously put a label on a person. the whole spectrum of some ones personality just doesnt fit into one category

I think folks use labels or stereotypes because it's easier than actually getting to know someone. To delve into the myriad facets of another person takes time, patience, interest and compassion.

Much quicker to take one look, or listen, and form an opinion.

It's unfortunate and rather sad how much folks like that miss out on.

It seems to me that if you're going out of your way to dress a certain way, then more than likely that is the impression you want to give to the world, so it would be dumb to complain about being labelled by the way you dress.

The people who passionately care about labels, wether it be against labels or in favor or, are all just idiots.

"Dude, RanC, you're a stoner man. I mean, you smoke pot and, you listen to Kyuss and stuff."
"Whatever man, whatever."

Besides, it's easy to label people.
"Hey, you have a skateboard. You wear baggy clothes, you listen to modernday punk, you hang out with people just like you? Hey, let's call you a skater."

Everyone uses labels, but not everyone CARES about it.

Well, maybe there wouldn't be so many "idiots" against labels if people didn't like to use them in such a negative way. Labels are mainly used to dis or exclude people in my experience. I don't see why we need them.

If nobody cared about them, nobody would use them.

Just look at the forums, almost everybody uses "emo" in a degrading fashion. All labels are bound to certain stereotypes. If you fit, or kind of fit, a stereotype, you're part of a label.

It's either A) don't use stereotypes or B) don't care about them.

Seriously, why care if somebody labels you? It tells more about the person who labels then about the person who gets labeled.

Or, better said, you DID cared.

Seriously, who cares if someone calls you "emo"? What is fundamentally wrong about it that it takes away all ability to enjoy life? Seriously, I don't get the problem.

Who cares what other people think, as long as you know who you are and you believe in whatever it is that you believe who gives a shit. That's what i try and do all the time. People can call me whatever they want, but I know the truth about me and that's all that matters. Perhapse do the same and just not care what other people think of you...
