I am 26 years old. I had spondylolisthesis and a degenerative disc at L5-S1. Most of my pain was on the left side and central back. I had the AxiaLIF done on 1/12/09. I felt OK for the first couple of months, but my left side and left butt were hurting after that and the center of my back felt unstable. The CT scan 5 months later revealed that the left pedicle screw was intersecting the L45 joint which was causing pain on the left while the L5-S1 space was not fusing around the central screw. I had the left pedicle screw removed on 9/8/09 and BMP placed on the left to try to induce a fusion on the left side. I am wearing a bone stimulator to help the left and center fuse. I am still having similar pains. It seems that I will need to get the center fused for any relief. Has anyone here had pains on the left or right side, but when the center fused, they had relief from the pain? One doctor told me that with the central screw in at L5-S1 instability is not a problem. Could the pain be from the movement on the left and right side?

Thanks for any comments.

Maybe your pain is coming from somewhere else? Tight piriformis muscles, tight hamstrings, How about SI joint problems? The neuro pain oftentimes takes a long time to improve following any spinal surgery. How severe was the neuro pain prior to surgery? Have you had epidurals at the L5/S1 level? Are you a smoker? Did you wear a brace and avoid bending, lifting and twisting??

Hi, I do not know if this helps, but since the AxiaLif Op, I suffered big time.
I had x-rays and there happy the screws are in the correct place and everything was ok. But the pain was more intense after the op and continued to get worse. I had mine done nov 25th 2009.
I have just received my new MRI and it shows a leakage of cement from the disc removal, and can not be picked up unless its leaked to somewhere were it can be visable.
Mine was very Servere, and now have to go back in to have it all sorted.
Maybe a consideration for you?
