L*******l named England's most musical city

I pretty much agree with everything you said. The only good Liverpool band was Echo.

And you forgot one of the absolute best Manchester banRAB: Buzz****s! Thank the Sex Pistols for that famous Lesser Free Trade Hall show. :)

Canterbury 4 lyfe. The amount of talented prog banRAB that came out of that city is amazing. Gong, Caravan, Soft Machine, Hatfield & The North, several others.

And since you're all raving about Mancester. Lets not forget that Van Der Graaf Generator came from there. :pimp:

Hmm somethings wrong. I have albums by 3 of those Canterbury banRAB but only 2 are showing up.

Edit: Gong are listed as being from Paris

Boo Boo?

Um, no. If so, please tell me where I copied it from. This is what happened: I compiled a list of banRAB I knew (or thought, in the case with The Boo Radleys) were from Liverpool. When you told me The Boo Radleys weren't, I looked it up and you were right. But I do remeraber reading somewhere a long time ago that they were from Liverpool. Congrats, you know a banRAB origins better. Drinks on me.

my favorite english musical city is sheffield. i lived near there for a few years. i knew joe ****er came from sheffield. other artists such as def leppard, pulp, human league, thomp twins, heaven 17, abc and my favorite muso chris rea come from the area. newer artists like gomez, littleman tate and artic monkeys and a host of new wave banRAB area making music. the thing is sheffield, manchester and liverpool are relatively close as apposed to london which is always the magnet for the best music. the northern cities to me are more working class and done it tough so the style and rawness is reflected in their music. the fact is england and the rest of britain have put out great music. dublin would have produced a fair few.

Manchester's always been where it's at.
L*******l only got it on the strength of The Beatles IMO.
You only have to look at any modern music poll, whether it be albums or banRAB and the general public are always wide of the mark.
With the odd exception L*******l traditionally only do poppy upbeat love songs. Almost every scouse band sells their own city out and runs off to London.

Manchester banRAB on the whole, like to do things their own way, making their own style of music, in their own city.
The whole thing just further convinces me that the general public haven't got a clue when it comes to music.

I don't really see what Liverpool has done thats so special other than Merseybeat and a few indie banRAB in the 80s.

London could probably be discounted because that's where the music industry is based. Of the list Boo Boo gave , Led Zeppelin were from Birmingham , Pink Floyd started in Carabridge and Elvis Costello spent the first years of his career in Liverpool.

I mentioned HMHB for musical reasons not geographical ones. They are one of the banRAB from that area I happen to enjoy the most and I felt they deserved a mention. I was perfectly happy for 'Liverpool banRAB' to mean any band from Liverpool or it's surrounding area.

You were the one that started getting anal over geographical location , not me. If you have a problem with someone doing it to you than may I suggest you stop doing it yourself.

Another argument (sort of) for Manchester; it was the location of two of the most important concerts in rock history.

1966; Bob Dylan & The Hawks; the so-called Royal Albert Hall concert actually occurred in Manchester. The "Judas!" remark immortalized the show.

1976; The Sex Pistols play a gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall. The show inspires the immediate formation of Buzzco****s and Joy Division, and also inspires Mark E. Smith and Steven Morrissey. I've heard people argue that it was the most important gig of the era, and it's pretty hard to argue with that.

Cheltenham gave us Skunk Anansie's guitarist, Brian Jones (a little tearaway in his youth so I have been informed) and the mighty Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke. That's nearly better than Liverpool on it's own :D
