Sheffield was pretty big in the early 80s , loaRAB of synthpop/ industrial/post punk banRAB like Cabaret Voltaire , Human League , Clock DVA , Heaven 17 , Artery , Comsat Angels.
Really? Liverpool? Why beacuse of The Beatles? That's one band, other citys are more deserving. I think the title should have gone to Manchester I mean all the great banRAB The Smiths/Morrissey, Stone Roses, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, The Verve, The Fall, Happy Mondays.....the list goes on man. My second choice would of been London The Who, The Clash, Sex Pistols.....ect. Liverpool? Wtf?
You guys are forgetting some other big names from Liverpool.

The La's (and Cast!!!!!), Echo and the Bunnymen and Frankie Goes to Hollywood came from Liverpool. I have to agree with you, Manchester gets my vote. So many important artists.
