Kyocera KX16 + USB data cable + laptop = internet?

Alright,

Here's what I have:

-Kyocera KX16 with the USB data cable (my Cricket service has unlimited internet)
-A laptop that is currently running Linux, but can easily be switched to Windows (only if necessary)
-A Windows XP test computer

I want to connect the phone to my laptop and use it to access the internet (on my laptop), no matter how slow it might be.

How do I do it?

I've tried reading the other threaRAB, but they are kinda hard to follow.

Step by step, if possible, please?

Thanks a bunch!!

i've only done this on my mogul but i tried to do this w/ my friend vx8350 from verizon and managed to get it all up and running except his password and username was wrong...

anyway's here's what we did. (windows xp)

We plugged the phone up to the computer and it installed the com port and the modem drivers.

then we went to control panel and then Network and Internet Connections
Next under Pick a Task we went to Set up or change your Internet Connection. Then we clicked on Add and New Connection Wizard popped up, and we selected the first option (Dial-up or private network).

Then there were little check boxed and we checked the one next to the phone's name and the modem com port then we clicked next, and for the phone nuraber we put #777 and name it w/e u want.

once that's done go to Network Connections and select the connection u just made and a dialog box should appear asking for ur username and password.

username is [email protected] and password is cricket

IF you get connected u go to set ur browser to browse thru cricket's proxy.

(Firefox is what i used as i don't know how to set it up for IE)

In Firefox select Tools > Options> Network tab> Settings> and select Manual proxy connection

for HTTP proxy type wap.mycricket.com and port is 8080

and u should be up and running.............

but like i said i only tested this w/ my mogul... i'm going to go test it on this env now...

hope this helps.

EDIT::

Well I just used my env to test this, but since i didn't have the cable w/ me i had to use bluetooth... worked perfectly though

I'll have to try that when I get home.

Does anyone know how to do it on Linux (Slackware 12)? I tried the pl2303 driver (native) and the NDISwrapper driver (the Kyocera_P_Windows.zip driver), but the entire machine froze up when I tried to query the phone (as a modem) with KPPP and Minicom. :doh: :help:

Don't know, but probably not. I heard somewhere that the Cricket WAP service was limited to port 80 and 443.

You could, however, set up some kind of proxy server on the internet that would take all port 80 or 443 requests and forward them to 6667 (IRC port)...

Alright, I have the COM port and the Modem drivers installed, but the dialer won't dial...

Also, when I dial #777 on my phone, it says "We're sorry, the feature code you have entered is invalid. Please check the nuraber and try your call again. Message 42, BOI"

I have no idea what that means.

Any alternate solutions for the Boise area?

Code:
var statement:Object = new Object();

statement.following = function(state) {
	statement.tof = state;
	return statement.tof;
};

statement.previous = function(state) {
	statement.tof = state;
	return statement.tof;
};

output:String = new String("The following statement is " + statement.following(false) + newline + "The previous statement is " + statement.previous(true));

trace(output);
The answer is TRUE. :2thurabs:

I just finished reloading my laptop to Vista premium, so I will see if it works on there. *crosses fingers*

EDIT: k.....so Vista did the same thing that XP did....it just didn't work. But I do know that it is not getting past the dialing stage...could it be a problem with the settings or the cable?

How does one email pics from a K16 with only the $25 rate plan to an internet email or be able to upload the pics to a computer without a data cable?

I tried emailing a picture message to an email but cricket won't do that. So I was wondering if this was possible if I only have the $25 plan

Alright, go to your Media Gallery, go to Pictures, hover over the picture and press Options. Select Send To Online and it should go to your Cricket account at mycricket.com. (You'll have to login to it, then go to your online photo gallery. From there, you can just download the pictures by right-clicking on them and selecting save picture as...

Man I just realized what phone you're using. You're using a candid right? I don't think a cricket branded phone allows for tethering so that may be the reason you're not able to get it working.

Hope someone can confirm this for me.

All the tethering I've done has been on flashed phones, the Mogul, Env, vx8300, u740, etc. I have yet to get one working w/ an original cricket phone.

Yes I tried going to media and did send to online but it gave me an error message sending failed invalid phone nuraber. also I logged into mycricket.com but can't find on there where my photos would be uploaded to
