Hello Kyma,

Could you give me a little summary of your back problems leading up to your fusion surgeries? I could go back and look for your old posts, but this would be a lot easier. :dizzy:

Did you have any symptoms of cauda equina prior to surgery? Did you ever have a myelogram??

How are you feeling by today? And I hope hubbie is doing OK too so you aren't having to do all the running around.

Talk to you soon!

Hi M:)M,

I had lower back problems for years but it wasn't until 2 years before my fusion that I really started to have more pain and the sciatic pain got worse and was bone on bone. For some reason when I had my last neck surgery my lower back really got bad and I started having trouble with my left leg.

I actually had had 3 myelograms over a 5 year period because I was also having the problems with the cervical spine also so they did the cervical and lurabar myelograms. I did have some bladder problems 6 months before they did my fusion but my neurosurgeon said that the results from my myelogram didn't show that there was any reason for my bladder problems coming from my back. I was taking physical therapy also during this time and the therapist contacted my surgeon and told them that she thought i was having bladder problems due to my back.

At the same time I was on a new treatment for my RA and was eventually admitted to the hospital for severe kidney infection so everyone decided that must have been the reason I was having problems with my bladder. Now after my fusion my neurosurgeon apologized for not listening to me about my bladder because he said the 4 spurs they found when doing my fusion very well could have caused the bladder problems.

I guess it was a corabination of a couple of things causing the bladder problems but I have some of the same symptoms now that I had before the surgery so that is what worries me. I was also diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder over 30 years ago.

Hubbie's knee gave out on him again today and he also hurt his back. He was feeling better and started doing too much walking. I was really mad at him because he isn't using the walker like he was told to or even a cane. He says he is going back to work tomorrow so we will see.

I haven't felt well today but just can't put my finger on it. I started on that new medication for my thyroid so it might be that.

Thanks for asking and will report back tomorrow.

Take care
