"Kung Fu Panda" - Talkback (Spoilers)

I regret that I totally missed this film while it was in the theaters; since so many people told me how good it was, I got the DVD from Netflix. And boy, was I impressed. Kung Fu Panda is easily the best CGI film Dreamworks has ever produced. It was really elevated by the fact that it actually had a well-developed story and fleshed out characters, instead of just being a string of pop culture references and lame gags. And, of course, the animation and martial arts choreography were amazing. :) I'd probably give it between nine and ten stars, out of ten.

I say that the sequels should only be connected to the first film, but not to each other.

You know Millennium-era (of the Godzilla films) style.

Hey look at it this way, the writers won't have to be burdened with any continuity set by a previous sequel.

I agree. If Dreamworks must really stretch Kung Fu Panda across 5 films, let each movie be a self-contained story, as opposed to one extended giant story.

Some ways to take off.

* Rescue Mission
* Rival Kung Fu Group
* Defend against malevolent crusade/conquest
* Sealed Evil in a Can gets released
* End of Kung Fu?

I liked it, even though I've never been a big fan of DreamWorks' animated films. They just don't seem to have that charm that makes every Pixar film great. The first Shrek was nice, but as it got more and more sequels, it just ruined it in my opinion (there's two more coming and a spin-off.) Kung Fu Panda is like a breath of fresh air after breathing all that dirty ogre swamp air.
