"Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special" - Talkback [11/24]

A Kung Fu Panda holiday special airs tonight at 8:30 PM Eastern. Here is the synopsis:
 
Dang, I missed this. I had to go out tonight so I had to DVR Firebreather on Cartoon Network, and I was watching the playback at 8:30; I totally forgot about this special. Anyone know if there's going to be an encore?
 
I really enjoyed it. Makes me wish the animated series would premiere sooner rather than later. I really liked the bunny chef; he easily stole the show. I still believe that Kung Fu Panda has one of the best musical scores and this special reminded me of that. Hopefully The Track Team will be able to emulate that for the series, but I digress.
 
It probably will, someday- only time will tell. In addition to both Kung Fu Panda and Shrek, which NBC has been showcasing, lately, the network probably wished very badly to give both of these characters a series of their own, respectively. It's a real shame that with good cartoon characters that are being showcased, the networks can't cash in on the showcased product by getting them a regular Saturday morning series. In the meantime, don't be surprised if NBC continues to showcase both Kung Fu Panda and Shrek.
 
Well, like I was expecting, it was pretty bad. Not horrible, like I thought it would be, but still bad. :p

There were a few good points, though. The animation of the dream sequence was excellent, the montage of disasters was well executed, it was nice to see Po and the Five actually doing their jobs by fighting bad guys, Monkey and Crane actually had more lines out of all the Five, and Tigress was just outright pleasant.

And then came the bad bits for me. I thought it was kind of a jerk move by both Ping and Shifu to have Po all worried about family stuff and Dragon Warrior duties. Bunny the Chef's suicidal behavior was not funny to me at all. Then there was Tai Lung's cameo and cutting off Po just when he was about to finish the sentence on if he's dead, missing, back to prison or whatever. I love Tai Lung, but it's really annoying how they keep trying to keep what happened to him in the end of the movie a mystery. Either tell us if he'll ever be back for the sequel or not. Yeesh.

Speaking of, I thought that was also a little Tai Lung throwback when Shifu saw everyone together and then became all emo about family and stuff and ending up joining only after Po insisted. I also thought I saw some sort of image in the clouds or something when Po was down at the village watching everyone and then looked over the horizon or palace or whatever it was, I dunno, I got distracted and it passed by before I could make it out. Anyway, I'm surprised I didn't hate this Christmas special as much as I thought I would, so good effort by the makers.
 
Wonder when the Chinese dub of this special will air in China and Hong Kong cuz Jackie Chan reprises his role as Monkey in both Cantonese and Mandarin dubs of Kung Fu Panda.
 
missed the first half of this.. which sucked .. but at least I'll get to see it Saturday hopefully.. btw, the air time will be 8:30 p.m after the Madagascar special..

speaking of which I hope they put both specials on DVD at a place besides Wal-mart.. (what the heck is with the exclusivity with Dreamworks and Wal-mart anyway?)
 
This Holiday special actually filled the void that the movie had - the interaction of Po and his dad. Yes, the movie was good, but it still lacked the bond of Po and his dad.
