Apparently a rash of new IV drug abuse has been sweeping Russia... instead of buying the more expensive heroin, they buy prescription-free codeine, and cook it into a super strong opiate called desomorphine. It's very toxic and impure, and doesn't dissolve well, so when they inject it it blocks vessels and causes the flesh to rot off to the bone.
