Known problem of screeching noise harmful?

I have had the screaming noise on both my Z72 (which I returned because of camera problems) and my T3 which I still have.

Is this problem harmful to the device, or just my ears? I think palm will repair it, but I don't want to send it off, and if I get another T3 from Bestbuy, I am guessing it will have the same problem (100% of Palms I bought so far have had it).

The T3 was a known issue and there was a patch from PalmOne related to SD card slot reading. This was the case especially with playing MP3's.

Did not know of a problem on the Zire.

But I'll tell you this much - every time I got the screech on the T3 was with a SanDisk SD card. So I don't use them for mp3's anymore.

The screeching should be checked - go to PalmOne and check the FAQ's for each model to see if they have a 'canned' response.

It's hard to tell if the screeching noise is a long term problem becuase neither model has been out for very long. Every Palm I even owned had a digitizer whine, some more noticeable than others, althrough the T3 and Sony UX50 see to be particularly bad. Except fro being annoying, I've never read any evidence that it decreases the life of digitizer.

..and it's become louder and louder. In the train I have people next to me look up when I switch on :o . I can't even read an ebook anymore because it has become so annoying. I have a feeling it just needs a thorough cleaning.

Any ideas?
