Knowing

This film was decent for the first half, but the second half was so bad, it was laughable.
I usually don't laugh at films, but I had to for this one.

The stones made no sense
The David Bowie aliens were just laughable, not creepy
The kid doing more numbers came to nothing

The ending came about and someone shouted "......well that was shit" and I have to agree, because it was just a letdown in the final half of the film.

Well worth avoiding

Saw this, this afternoon and thought it absolutely brilliant. The special effects are breathtaking and scarily real. Cage's acting a bit dodgy at times but not too distracting - but I think this could potentially end up being a sci-fi classic.

Saw it this evening - wow! Can't believe it's only a 15 certificate as there was some very scary imagery in it.

I found myself gripping the arms of the seat during the
plane crash and the subway derailment!
Not sure about the very end...hmmm, I'll have to think about that a bit more.

9/10

I thought the first half was amazing. I was completely gripped by the storyline and the acting and everything. That combined with the amazing effects (
esp the plane crash with the people on fire
) and I was seriously thinking about putting it on my favourite films ever list....

Then came the second bit, it was possibly the worst bit of film I have ever made seen, I couldn't help laughing at the stupid story, the acting went rapidly downhill and even the cgi turned a bit rubbish, it was all just a bit lame.

I was really disappointed because the trailer made it look amazing and the first half really lived up to it, shame the second half let it down :(

Nicely put, kinRAB sums it up for me too. The first 'accident' was the most shocking, then it just turned into a load of balls.

What was that bleak load of bull ending about too? The tree of life. RUBBISH.

There's no way I'd pay to see this but I'm sure I'll watch it when it turns up on TV. The review in The Times is pretty damning (no spoilers) - it gets one star. The reviewer's description of Nicolas Cage is great:

Cage, who looks increasingly like a child

It's a decent enough flick, very much in the M Night Shymalan vein, with some great disaster sequences.

But I was rather put off at times by a character who looks very much like Spike from 'Buffy' and the ending was pretty stupid.

When i saw Cage i knew it would be a bad movie, but i didnt know had bad! I thought it was awful and totally unoriginal and the meaning was painfully bad too...

It was too similar to Next and reminded me of the National Treasure movies. Ultimately the plot was pointless, showing that he couldnt change anything, which begs the question why were the "angels" giving people the codes in the first place?

The american bible creationism references pushed it over the edge. The whole "aliens are really angels who god gave spaceships" thing was painful, nearly as much as the noahs ark ending.

I liked the special effects and the way the first part and trailer were headed looked interesting, then it just got worse and worse. I probably wouldnt buy it for

I found the film very entertaining. The special effects are some of the best I've seen - they had to be really to distract from Nicholas Cage's acting - does that man ever smile??

First half with the discovery of codes, plane crash and subway disaster-fantastic.

The ending though was embarrasing. The whisperers was a crap name, the spaceship was terrible, the angels idea was laughable, the stones were pointless and the new planet seemed very disturbing. Was littered with dreadful dialogue, numerous plot flaws such as ignoring the codes Caleb was writing and the woeful acting.

My advice would be to watch the first hour and then leave.

Saw it last night, I found it a very good film. I stayed away from the reviews/previews so I didnt know too much of what to expect, but I was very impressed.

I saw this at the weekend and found it pretty good. I couldn't help but laugh everytime I saw Cage's 'disappointed Elk' impression though:D It's the best film of his since probably Con Air.

There were a few plot flaws and I would have liked to have had a few more disasters in the film and I wasn't sure on the ending but overall I enjoyed it

I thought this was a good film. Thought the special effects were excellent the best I have seen in a film ever.

Didn't know people felt the way they do about Nicolas Cage, I think he's a great actor. I enjoy most of the films he's been in, except The Wickerman.
