Know anything about Absinthe?

So I bought a bottle of Absinthe and beyond it tasting like complete ass I never felt anything other than being drunk. What should I be looking for in order to have the common Absinthe effects?

I've heard that it's only recently been legalized here in CA but is that due to its lack effect on ppl?
 
the absinthe you can buy in the states will not make you hallucinate but will give you one hell of a hang over... on top of it tasting like complete shit! lol but if you want real absinthe you must go to germany sorry man i tried it too ... it has to do with the type of wood that is used to cure the alcohol. i think its worm wood or something but they use something else... good day man buy some beer its cheeper n taste better lol
