Knocked Up

I was very impressed with Katherine Hiegl in this, I never really liked her before but thought she gave a very natural performance that really grounded the film. I can't imagine Anne Hathaway in the role.
 
I went to see this yesterday and thought it was good. I liked the main guy he was funny and Katherine Hiegl was really good too - I spent the entire film wondering what she'd been in before and then found out after it was My Father the hero!

The famous birth scene was a bit ewww and the film was a bit too long but overall it was good and v.funny :D
 
Watched it over the weekend..... and I thought it was good, but not as funny as was made out.

Personally I could kind of relate to the married couple - perfectly written and acted!
In fact, if anything, they kind of stole the show.

Personal favourite moment:
"Go f**k your bong...."
"I will go f**k my bong - doggy style for once"

That whole scene cracked me up
 
It was ok, but the only bit that made me really smile was when he was shouting 'at her hormones' - that was funny.

I was a bit disappointed to be honest - expected a laugh-a-thon, instead got more of a chick-flick!

I do think that the film was made up of lots of different elements that were quite realistic - sex/porn/blokey stuff/pregnancy/romance/relationship issues - am not saying it was a bad film, just wasn't what I expected.....
 
I really didn't want to see this - it didn't sound like my kind of film at all but I was talked into it and I have to say I thought it was truly wonderful. I really cared about all the characters in it and it made me laugh. I didn't think the birth scene was bad at all - but then I've had two of my own and that's what it's like. I didn't ask for a mirror though I must admit. I also loved the Vegas 'Cirque de Soleil' scene as well.
 
I'm the opposite: I really wanted to see it but came away disappointed. It was far too long, it didn't have the steady nerve to handle big issues, and it just wasn't that funny.

I don't mean that it should have analysed all sides in the abortion debate, for instance, but it chickened out of even using the word. Likewise the ridiculously simplistic way the couple fell in love was a sign of weak writing. Take out the drugs and the swearing and it was a very minor league relationship comedy.
 
I disagree about the abortion issue. She talked about it with her mother and it was made obvious she thought about it and made the choice to go ahead and have the baby.

I have read an American review of this film which said it obviously was made in support of the anti abortion lobby in the US and I couldn't disagree more - it is a woman's right to choose and that includes to choose to have a child as well as to choose not to.
 
No, I wouldn't say it was supporting the anti-abortion lobby but it didn't handle the issue confidently - did the word 'abortion' even get mentioned in the film?
 
Yes, when she was talking with her mother. And the way she talked about it with the guy is exactly how people do go around the houses when they discuss things like that in real life. I thought it was pretty realistic - people don't always deal with issues like that confidently.
