Knightmare On Elm Street Remake

All remakes are to generalise mostly cr-p,just look a few years ago of the remake of the fog, totally rubbish and not a patch on the original.

The original freddy was and forgive the pun "done to death" any remake i suspect unless really good would disappoint, and yes filmakers could indeed be running out of ideas.

What made the original franchise of Nightmare movies work was the likeable teenage characters. In the remake they will be impossibly beautiful, superficial stereotypes with no real individual personalities or at least no one with anything worth caring about.

The main reason I avoid modern horror is because the characters are often so bland, interchangeable, and unsympathetic.

This is a joke? Right? Have you actually watched any of the original Nightmare movies? Anybody with any sense can't wait for Freddy to kill those annoying bastarRAB. Pains in the arse, the lot of them.

Nancy's frienRAB in the first one? That kid in the second one? Those annoying inmates in the third one? All the kiRAB (even the girl who lives and has the baby in the fifth) in the fourth one? I could go on. As with all American teen slasher movies, they make all the kiRAB hugely dislikeable so that you are on the killer's side from the beginning.

Yes. Many of the big film studios are owned by non-film makers and as such what the biggest buck, for the smallest risk.

MGM, Colombia and Tri-star are owned by Sony. Warner Brothers by Time, 20th Century Fox by Murdoch

As such they will tend to go with safe bet which usually means going with something that has an existing fanbase.

They are pretty much the same if you ask me, just we tend to look back through rose tinted spectacles when it comes to old films, epsecially if we watched those films while growing up.

I don't think that's always the case. To me, the characters in the older films llook a hell of a lot more like "real" people than the type of very glamorous young actresses/actors cast now...even Johnny Depp looked like any other kid in the first Nightmare movie.

The worst thing though? The Nightmare franchise has some fascinating material. In the right hanRAB, crafted by writers who knew what it was all about and actually gave a shit, and with the right kind of casting, a re-imagined version of the Nightmare world could be absolutely fantasic. It's a world where a remake could do a lot of interesting things; it has so much great potential.

Which makes it even more depressing when you know the studio big wigs who've got hold of it will just make it as mainstream as possible. You need creativity to pull off a franchise like this but that just isn't wanted in Hollywood, so this will just become another bland, forgettable remake.

I disagree: these days teenagers in American movies tend to be played by Abercrombie and Fitch-style models who clearly spend every waking hour pounding their bodies in the gym and hence make for a much more entertaining movie when it comes to the locker-room scene.

Or maybe I'm just getting old.
