Knightley in talks for 'My Fair Lady'

But Julie had been starring in the stage show. And she sang in the role too unlike Audrey. The only reason they didn't use her is because they felt she wasn't well known enough (Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music came after)

Ok granted Julie Andrews is a better singer BUT Audrey was a better actress... Especially given the character of the brash Eliza is so far removed from sweet elegant and softly spoken woman that she was.

Either way NO Keira! NO! When something is great leave it alone... like you should have done with Pride and Prejudice... Jennifer Ehle was awesome and you didn't do better than her what makes you think you can do better than Audrey Hepburn!

The thing is if they DO want to remake the film now, then neither Julie Andrews nor Audrey Hepburn is available any more.

Personally I'm not convinced a re-make should be done but, if it is done, then the role of Eliza should definitely go to a British actress and at least she IS British.

What worries me most about this proposed remake is not so much the choice of star but the fact that they propose to muck around with the original script and original story of "Pygmalion" and bring it all "up to date" and set it in the 21st century. I hate that sort of thing.
I hate it when they set Shakespearean plays in modern times too - it just doesn't work.

Are you talking about the same play that George Bernard Shaw became the only person in history to have been awarded both the Nobel Prize for Literature and an Oscar?

Given good direction, acting and with a big enough budget yes they could equal or even improve on the Hepburn version.

I would hope they altered the ending so she goes off with Freddy rather than the Higgins.

As to Should they try ?
Probably not

I think they should spend their time and money making new movies or improving on bad movies.
