Knife crime in UK? Increasing alarmingly or just media hype?

The current situation of the UK is terrible; but my question is ...

Knife crime, is is on the increase?

Or are the figures around the same as they have always been?

I know that bad news makes interesting and some of my friends are of the opinion it is indeed getting worse and others are of the view that it is the media focusing their attentions in on the subject.

Either way it is alarming, what are your views?
 
its media hype. look up the data yourself and you'll see that violent crime has went down, especially knife and gun crime.
