Knee

My mother-in-law had a stint put into her heart about a month ago.She now has a egg sized knot on her right knee. She had an x-ray but it did not show anything. What could be causing this?Could it be a blood clot?

it would help alot to just know exactly where this 'knot' actually is located within the knee? is it at the back behind the knee of someplace else? unfortunetly the only thing that really shows up well upon x ray is bone and other more harder boney structures too, not the very crucial tendon/ligament and muscle? the "soft tissue" structures where you can just have alot of real damage that wont show up unless you have an MRI or some levels of CT?

alot of what this just could be depends upon the overall symptoms and location. blood clots are a "possible" thing considering what she has with the what the need for the stent was in the first place but she would also have heat generation over the area and swelling, not so much what you describe as a 'knot" type of thing? the clots tho tend to be deeper into the actual leg/calf area? one doppler ultrasound simply run on her leg viens would rule that in or out immediately. is she having any real pain or other symptoms in that leg or knee itself? does it ever just give out, or feel like it 'catches" on something when she bends it or walks?

just based upon what you have described here, this really 'sounds' more like some type of actual 'structural issue' of some kind with what is simply IN that knee area which could be tendon or ligaments or muslce. but the biggest or more common problems within the knee tend to be with the ligaments/tendons. our knees just take one heck of alot of wear and tear and a lot of weight bearing too that just over time ,certain things simply can wear out, or thin to the point that they can snap a tendon or damage a crucial ligament. if an actual tendon snaps, it would tend to 'retract' itself in there and that just 'could' possibly be what that 'knot' actually is?

i have had alot of damage in my right knee that has required two seperate knee surgeries to fix. had a TON of actual wear and tear type damage and tore my meniscus with a blow out injury. i would have her see her primary for a referral for an ultrasound done on that leg(only if the doc actually "feels' this could be a clot) along with also obtaining an MRI on the knee too. but from what you described i really doubt this is actually a real clot. it just sounds much more like a structural damage type of situation. like i mentioned above, knowing the exact location of the knot would tell the story. if you just look up the signs and symptoms of what an actual clot would simply 'present" like, i think you would know right away if this even sounds like what she has or not.

please let me know what you do find out on what this knot actually is. MRI really would tell you alot about any possible real damage she may have. i was only about 45 when my MRI was done on my knee and i already had a ton of wear and tear damage. i have always been on the smaller lighter side, no weight issues. but someone who simply weighs more can also have alot more damage in there too. its just alot of real weight sitting upon that joint that impacts it espescially when walking/stepping hard or running.
