Hi, i am new here and wonder if anyone has balance problems when getting off klonopin. Dr. said it was normal. I am 61 and also have fibromyalgia and vertigo, yep...I am a mess

Klonopin has cause lots of problem and withdrawals. You need to drop down very slowly. What dose are you taking now and how long have you been taking it?

I was addicted to Xanax for 3 years from a doctor I was taking 1mg 2x a day and 2mg 1x a day. When I told him I wanted to switch from xanax to klonopin he said ok but we have to put u on a higher dose klonopin at first and he had me on 2mg 3x a day klonopin and now I take 1mg klonopin 3xaday but i usually just take one or two.

I was taking 1/2 of a 0.5 tablet 3 x a day and am down to 1 a day not. I started cutiing back in Sept of this year. I was on it for 9 months. Prior to that I was taking it for 13 years and it took 1 year to come off of. I was off for 4 years and started back again cause for 4 years I was house bound cause of the way it left my nervous system. I started again cause i wanted to have a life again and then the dr. started to cut me off and now I am in the same boat agin, house bound and no life

It is rare to find a doctor who knows about the damage benzo's do. Is you doctor aware that this drug has disabled you?

I see that you're an expert at tapering. Many people think that just because it's a small dose that they can just stop taking it. I took it for a few months and it took me a couple of months just to get off on the small dose I was taking. I still had panic attack for a few days towarRAB the end. I'm glad I'm off of it.

Why does the doctor want you off of the Klonopin? Is there a reason? You should explain to your doctor how you feel now.

with fibromyalgia and being 61, it doesn't seem to me like you are taking anything major anyways. however, that is up to you and your doc. if you feel like you need it then go to another doctor. a mental health doctor would give it to you with no problem. I am not trying to encourage narcs, obviously we are all on here because we have problems with them, but if you are staying in your house and not going out then I would say you are having worse problems without the meRAB.

he knows how i feel, but he wants me off and i really dont know how i can live life without it. i was off for the 4 years and it still seemed to ruin my life. no frienRAB and marraige was really hurt by it. i just dont feel good any more, always feel sick and down.

She is taking klonopin, a very powerful drug and part of the benzodiazepine family. (Xanax and klonopin being the worst of this class) If one becomes dependent the withdrawal from these drugs makes heroin withdrawal look like a walk in the park so I would suggest that this is major.

Dear noon:

I know i have read about klonopin for fibromyalgia, mainly for restless leg syndrome. Lyrica is a good drug for fibromyalgia. It didn't really help me any. I am prescribed xanax and don't take them very often because they zap my energy. Do you think the small dose that she takes is that harmful, I mean if her whole life is ruined due to all the other things and that little bit of klonopin makes all the difference, what else could she do? I do realize that Klonopin is major as with xanax I don't doubt you there. I am just thinking that if that is all that she takes is it really that bad?

We need more info from the OP but I read her posts to say that fibromyalgia was caused by K withdrawal which is common and that she went back on K because after 4 years off she is still in protracted withdrawal. In other worRAB she has made a decision that she may well be better off dependent on K than continue to live in protracted withdrawal. I am not sure why the doctor is taking her off it now????
If I interpret this correctly I see no reason for the doctor to take her off and I support her use of it.

As to you asking is it really that bad I am not sure what you mean?

Yes it is terrible to be dependent on a drug that has damaged you so badly that after 4 years you need to reinstate because you are disabled from it.

It you are asking if a small dose is dangerous, this is not a small dose and taking any benzo over a month is dangerous (as per the manufacturer) at any dose. Is it better to be dependent on a drug than suffer a more severe malady? Of course it can be.

So, if I understand you and the OP I agree with you.
