Klonopin and feeling unfocused

I'm bipolar, and for various personal reasons my anxiety is completely out of control right now, so my pyschiatrist has prescribed .25mg/2x a day when I defend my dissertation and things will get easier. I can't take SSRI's, so my options are limited.

I took it for the first time this morning and I feel very unfocused and am having trouble getting work done. Is it likely this will pass in a few days, or is this a sign that I can't tolerate it? Right now I feel like calling my doctor and telling him I'm not taking it anymore, but the anxiety was causing real problems in my life.

Also, is there any way to take less of the drug than .25mg? I'm already splitting pills, and I can't get a steady dose by quartering them really. I saw there were disolving tablets--has anyone used those to get a lower dose?

I have a pill cutter, but I'm already cutting the pills to get to the dosage I'm on. My plan now is to give it a few more days and see if the unfocused feeling diminishes.

Today I can't really tell if its any better--my dog had an emergency last night and then surgery this morning so I'm running on 4 hours of sleep which really screws me up.

Klonopin has never made me feel unfocused, it usually gives me a calming feeling. However, when I am very stressed, I find that I am unfocused because I am so worried about getting everything done, etc., that it is hard to focus on what I actually have to do. Could this be a possibility? I am on 1 mg of Klonopin as needed every 8 to 10 hours.
Also, I do know that when I don't get enough sleep, even with the meRAB, my anxiety gets worse.

I am on .5 mg a day and it does not leave me unfocused. I am tapering off of it now.
