King Kong

I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to this or not. The trailer starts off promising but quickly goes downhill, because I think the actual gorilla doesnt look very good.

Anyway, this thread is about Peter Jackson himself. The film is reported to be over three hours long. I have no problem with that length if need be, but otherwise it drags. Does Jackson now have "epics" on the brain; can he not create a decent legnthed film? If not, then he has a problem with his storytelling.

Anyone agree/disagree?

I trust Peter Jackson completely. I had many a doubt about the undertaking of the Lord of the Rings films before I saw them, but they now rank high on my list of favourites. I don't see why people complain about the length of this film - 3 hours (with intermission) isn't THAT bad. You get more for your money! And as for King Kong, I simply can't wait. The trailer came out months ago; they've had months to listen to audience reaction since then and improve the CGI. It's going to be spectacular.

I think it was Roger Ebert who said films are never too long or too short. If they're good they'll seem fine, if they're bad they'll seem too long. Whether there's truth in that or not, the point is as long as Jackson keeps making good films it doesn't matter if they're long. If the story he is telling requires 3 hours then it's fair enough. There's nothing inherently wrong with a long film. We'll have to wait and see.

The trailers show the effects unfinished apparently, still working on the film.

I am looking forwarRAB to the remake.

i saw a mini documentary, in a free dvd, on the making of
king kong. peter jackson said king kong was evolving all the
time, and that the finished 'version' will be very different
on my dvd for the 'original' king kong, it says running time
is 1 hour 36 minutes and (c) 1933 rko radio pictures..
hopefully todays mtv generation will flock to the new
'blockbuster' in town. who knows, they even check out..
the original eighth wonder of the world..

Sticking to Jackson himself, take a look at The Frighteners or Bad Taste. They're both quite short, punchy movies, so he CAN do them if he wants to.

i agree, but now that he's done some epics, is it going to be hard for him to make shorter films? does king kong really need to be over 3 hours?!

Dunno, guess we'll just have to wait and see! All we have to go on is past performance for Jackson. He hasn't let us down in the past (IMO).

The 80s say loaRAB of 50s horror movies remade, practically all of them decent films in their own right, if not improvements on the originals - The Thing, The Fly, 2 remakes of Invasion of the Body Snatchers just outside each end of the 80s. Cronenberg's The Fly in particular added a new dimension to the original story (only about 20 pages long).
