King Kong???

Is anyone looking forward to seeing this film? I'm a big fan of the the Ring trilogy and what Peter Jackson did with it but the trailers so far have failed to inspire me to want to see it, looks like a mixture of other films we have already seen especially Jurrasic Park?

I have to agree.

I've been avidly following the progress of this film since Day 1, and I've really enjoyed watching the production diaries. But when the trailer hit, I felt a huge surge of disappointment.

But I have faith Peter Jackson will pull it off. I didn't think much of the Lord of the Rings trailers when I first saw them. Now, I'm an absolute massive fan of the films, and own all the extended DVD's.

The original Kong had dinos in it but comparisons with Jurassic Park are inevitable - the former certainly influenced the latter though.
I think KK05 looks great though I'm not too sure Jack Black is right for the role. He looks uncomfortable in the trailer.

"I still think that the original 1933 version is probably the best"

Well, you can't really say that before seeing Peter Jackson's version, can you? The trailer isn't a particularly good indication of the scope of this movie, or the insane amount of work that's going into it (all the CGI was unfinished and some shots trailer-only). I totally trust Peter Jackson to make a masterpiece.

Jack Black isn't miscast, even though I first invisioned Denham to be nearer to 50. He can do that insane enthusiasm that Denham neeRAB to have, and from what we've seen so far he's done a good job.

Comparisons to Jurassic Park are inevitable ('oh no, both movies have dinosaurs in them so they must be the same!'), but the scenarios here are much more exciting than anything possible in the JP movies. Kong going up against 3 T-Rexes is gonna be the scene that everyone will look forward to.

Sure this'll be a great movie, but it's a remake, with a plot nearly as old and well-worn as popular cinema itself. We know the story. We know the characters. We know the ending. Only difference between this and "Rings", is that nobody really wanted this one. I expect it'll do really well, but after what's gone before from PJ, you can't help feeling a little underwhelmed.

Personally, I'd like to see another venture into bad taste twisted horror. Come on, Peter... you know you've got one more in you...

Incidentally, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't the original "Kong" Adolf Hitler's favourite movie?

True, the story may be tired. But think of the new generation who can enjoy it!

I must say though, it is sometimes better to form new stories.

But look at Lord of the Rings- that wasn't written by Jackson.

Anyway, back to the subject, King Kong (and the game by the looks of things) is going to be good.

Jackson has reportedly kept all New York scenes under wraps. Either covering up a disaster of a film or teasing us with hints of a blockbuster? You decide...
