I actually started watching this show today. It's different then what I had expected. Emmett was truly a pleasent surprise. I also went from hating Bay to liking her. It's like she and Daphene switched roles.

Ep 4 - the fundraiser. I think that after he saw her with Liam and surrounded by a group if guys laughing he decided to put the unrequited love to rest. In the following ep, he left Daphne with Toby cheating at the poker game, which only attests to his strength if character and his individuality. In the 6th ep he & Bay have a chance mtg at Buckber- a meet cute- and the rest is history! But Bay is NOT a rebound girl; in fact Bay does not need to compete with Daphne. It's the other way around.
