Kinda bummed, but not really...HS@Home info I got today

Stopped at the local T-mobile kiosk at the mall today and asked about the wi-fi blackberry that's coming out. He said it was the Curve, that it did have wi-fi, but still wouldn't be able to be used on the Hot Spot at Home plan. That was the bummer...but the good part is, he said that around the time my contract is up, they do plan on having a blackberry that can be used with HS@Home. Guess I won't be upgrading as soon as I thought, but it'll give me more time to pounce on a good deal when it does come along

Also...he said the current price for the HS@Home would end on Sept 1...after that, single plans would go from $10/month to $20/month and that the family would go from $20/mo to $30/mo. Just hope they have another special around the time my contract's over! Not so sure I'd be willing to spring $30 extra a month for me and the hubby to be able to have free calling from home. $20 isn't bad, but $30 is stretching it I think...

im not on tmo but I would agree with tom. it should work regardless the wifi connection

That sounds like a bummer. I recently purchased the Curve thru AT&T, which I am still under my 30 day try out period. I was thinking of returning the Curve and purchasing thru T-Mobile. I wanted the WIFI for the at At Home Hot Spots. I was looking for a better phone connection at home. I am not interested in the WIFI for web browsing. I may as well keep my Curve with AT&T since I only paid $99.00. I am sure the upgraded Curve will cost more.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~if tmo comes out with a curve with wifi I will most defenetly extend my contract with them I have a curve right now but wifi would be great

That's what I thought too! That's the whole reason I wanted the wi-fi for using HS@Home. I even gave him a weird look when he said it wouldn't work on that and asked if he was sure. Kept hoping they were wrong, but 2 of them agreed that it wouldn't work on hotspot. Like someone else said, not really interested in the wi-fi for surfing since I do that at home on the computer anyways. If there was another reason, like TRUE voip that would run on the wi-fi bb (not callback services, but something like Skype), that would change my mind.

If they were misinformed, I hope someone can clear it up! Or we can just wait a few weeks and see if it's listed as one of the compatible phones at the T-mo website.

No, It cannot simply be a wifi phone b/c it is not data being transfered over the wifi connection but voice as well. Must have the ability for uma. However just as the latest OS upgrades have unlocked the processor to now take a 4gig sd and sdhc cards a software update i am assuming would be possible to unlock uma.

the curve actually will ne used for the hotspot @home service, i've already confirmed it with a few of my close sources, the wifi with the curve will not be the wifi that can connect for high speed internet it will be the wifi for hotspot@home, they've been boxed and ready to go to t-mobile a couple of months ago. blackberry has been waiting on the word from t-mobile to start putting them out, im sorry about the confusion

Blahhhhh....I guess they need to inform the reps I talked to....and they're usually pretty good and know their stuff! I'll just smack them the next time I'm there

u know for all their hotspot loving activities, t-mobile is really quite evil about it (phone company, i guess its to be expected). i bought the t-mobile wing for college since it had wifi and touch screen and all sorts of fancy things. then after using the wifi i realized that it still charges me for texting if i do send/recieve on it. so basically, if i want to do anything email related, i would have to start the internet browser, wait for that to load, then go to the email page. i would rather just whip out my laptop and check it on there than wait for the phone to load everything. also, when i clicked to view pictures, im charged for picture mesesaging. i got the blackberry so i could just get rid of whatever i wouldnt be using. i suppose the other option i have is to get an upgraded plan with 1000 texts and change gmail to text email only, and from there i can just download mail as a text message, but i dont think i have that big a need to check email just yet.

To be totally honest. And I can speak from tmobiles standpoint. They won't tell there employees anything until about a week its due to launch most reps get their information from websites like this and phonescoop and cnet. There are a few of us how actually get they information from the horses mouth and that's usually because we got a connection. And we usually don't give that connection out to anyone.
